I am a 19 year old male and I’ve noticed that in pictures my widows peak seems to be a bit thin, and my middle part seems to be a little wide. I’m not sure if it looks thin because of the way my hair is parted, or if it is actually thinning. Based off of the pictures does my hair look like it is thinning?

I will probably go get my thyroid levels checked. I also suffer from possibly hormonal acne, which may have a correlation with my thyroid levels, which may be the cause of possible thinning.

As for hair loss history, most of the men in both my dad's and mom's sides of the family have thinning hair. However, to my knowledge they all began losing their hair later in life, and not at the age I am now. My dad has lost most of his hair but only started balding in his late 40s. If they all started balding later in life it should be unlikely that I am going bald at such a young age, right?

Well, from my personal experience, people that got acne, are more prone to also have hair loss, no always, soon or later on their life.
Also , people are tend to start loosing their hair younger that their parents. But some people have baldness genes from both sides and never go bald, it is just good or bad luck in the gene lottery plus certain factor in your life ( really stressfull times ) can tiger the problem sooner or later.
If you also have acne, will not be a bad idea to give ketoconazole 2 % shampoo a try, both in scalp and where do you have acne. Leave it for 10 minutes before you clean it.

Have you always parted your hair this way? If so, compare to an older photo. If not, take these same exact photos again in 6 months and compare. If the part is widening then it’s time to be concerned and see a dermatologist/doctor to discuss hairloss.

Are you currently taking any medication for your acne? Have you ever taken Accutane?

I haven’t always parted my hair this way, but I do have pictures of my hair from 2018 that I will post. Back in middle school/early high school I loved my hair and always thought I had thick hair, but during my sophomore year (2018) I got a perm and I noticed that I began to lose a lot of hair in the shower. Ever since the possibility of my hair thinning has always been on my mind. Could you take a look at these photos and tell me if it looks like there is hair loss? I could be in denial, which may influence what I think so I want someone else’s opinion. The following pictures are a few months after the perm, in which my hair is now straight again.

I’ve also never taken Accutane, but a lot of the acne I get is on my jawline, which usually indicates hormonal acne, I believe. I did recently get a dermatologist and I’m thinking to ask him next appointment about my hair just to ease my anxiety.

If my pictures from 2018 indicate that I am balding then I would have been balding since I was 14-16, which to my knowledge is not normal.

Are all three pics here from 2018? Hair looks healthy. The hairline looks the same as now. Hairloss after the perm was likely due to damage from the chemicals and should only have been a temporary setback.

As @jamesbooker1975 mentioned, genetic hairloss is complex and unpredictable. The environment you grew up in/live in is different to that of your father and could influence how certain genes are expressed so you cannot assume you will follow your dad’s timeline. Having hairloss on both sides of the family means you should mentally prepare yourself to deal with it because the odds are not in your favor. That being said, male pattern baldness doesn't happen overnight and you still have a good head of hair.

Seeing a dermatologist should assuage your anxiety. Be sure to discuss your concerns about a potential thinning/widening part and provide info about family history of hairloss. Also, some dermatologists examine the scalp under magnification with a dermatoscope. This helps to determine the degree of miniaturization (if any) that is occurring.

Good luck.

Hmm yeah on second thought could be potentially naturally low density like House has mentioned. Hard to say. I would just keep an eye on it. I say this because your hair looks the same.
