Is my scalp fat getting thinner or my head getting bumpier?

Hi guys,
I have noticed over three last few weeks that I can feel ridges at the back of my head (crown) and have found a sunken in dip about the size of my index finger pad also. I have been losing hair around my crown for about 8 years and it has progressed with time.

I wonder if the fatty layers between the skin and the skull are getting thinner, or is my skull really likely to be changing shape in my forties? My hair loss hasn't got dramatically worse recently, either as a result of thinning tissue or indeed causing the scalp to feel thinner. Also, I keep my hair short so it isn't likely that I have just noticed what was always there. Any thoughts?? Can the scalp get thin? Can ridges and dents appear in a skull(no recent trauma to affect it).

Thanks, Billy
