Hi , i have been on propecia for quite some time now and i am sad to say that my hairline has gone worse , the hair along my hairline has started to receed further and i can clearly see that those hair are miniaturizing. Does this mean that propecia is not working for me?

I still feel the itchiness/soreness feeling on my temples everyday and sometimes the soreness is so unbearable that i have to keep scrathing my temple , is this due to propecia or my male pattern baldness gene ? i have been on propecia for about 6 months . started for about 4 months then stopped for a month or so and another 2 months.

I used to not feel any soreness on my temples when i first started propecia but now the soreness is very bad and it's worse than before i started propecia. ( i used to feel a lil soreness at my temples when i first started losing hair )

DOes this indicate that propecia is doing the reverse thing for me? could this be the androgen receptor being more sensitive after using propecia? or propecia isnt working for me and testos is the cause of hairloss for me?

PLS HELP ME OUT , very depressed atm

NicholasLim - if your experiencing any kind of soreness you need to go see a doctor/specialist and discuss it with them. There could be whole lot of reasons behind this and you need to get it checked out asap.

Before you can judge whether Propecia is working for you or not, I'd recommend you use it for at least 12 months (though bear in mind you will only see the FULL benefits after 2 years of use.) The best chance you have of retaining/regrowing your hairline is by using Propecia AND Rogain. Loads of people have had great results using the two together.

The most important aspect when it comes to treating hairloss is consistency. Even if your feel as though your hair is getting worse, you have to grin and bear it and keep your regime up. I'd estimate 70% of people that are on Rogaine & Propecia see bad results before they see the good. Trust me, the worst possible thing you can do is quit half way through because you feel your losing ground.

I recommend you take the time to read this post (written by one of the moderators) especially the section on Finasteride - viewtopic.php?f=44&t=12865 lots of good info can be found there.

Like I said earlier though, you need to get your situation assessed first by a medical professional before you continue taking Propecia. If the soreness is as bad as you say it is, then something is definitely not right. You never know, it may not even be MBP that is causing your hairloss.

Thx for the replies , but from that page you directed me to , stronger hair is suppose to grow ! but for my case the hair on the hairline just keep miniaturizing instead of getting stronger . Did you experience this before? like hairline receeded a lot and grow back after 1 year on propecia?

From what I understand, you have only been on Propecia for 6 months. It takes AT LEAST 6 months for the treatment to kick in.

Heres another snippet of info taken from the 'success stories' forum (ref: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=12638)

Read this and repeat it to yourself 500 times: Hair Loss Treatments Take Time To Work! The average hair loss treatment takes a minimum of 6 months to begin working, and sometimes up to 24 months to truly see optimal results. If you are at month 8 and are convinced that you are doomed because you aren't seeing results.... be patient! Treating hair loss takes time for one major reason: Hair Cycles. The process of hair loss is the process of "miniaturization". Even that does not happen overnight! It takes many years. Your hairs grow in, cycle into dormancy, and then grow in again several months later. Each time they re-emerge, they do so thinner, shorter, and less pigmented. In time, they become so small that they are no longer noticeable. This can take many many years. The process of treating hair loss is the reverse. Even if you begin a treatment in January 2005, your hair will only cycle back into growth 2 or 3 times by January 2006. Give the little guys a chance! Be patient. Your optimal results, assuming you do not change your regimen, and stick with it, and ride out your shedding (dormancy phase), will be seen at the 2 year mark.

The guys who fail are always the guys who give up. Drop treatments. Stop treatments. Change treatments. Don't take pictures. Use the unproven treatments instead of the proven treatments first. Assume they've lost tons of hair and have nothing to bring them perspective. Aren't Patient. Don't ride out sheds. And don't give treatments time to work.

Also, are using minoxidil on your hairline? That is definitely a big factor when it comes to frontal regrowth.

Me personally, I have been Propecia for about 9 months now. I have used rogain for about 6 years in total. I started off using liquid for about 3 years - got some decent results. Switched to the foam a couple of years ago and it has completely eaten away at my hairline. As far as I'm concerned, the foam is totally ineffective. I switched back to the liquid a couple of months ago and have finally managed to start regrowing what I lost whilst on the foam. Although I have not seen any dramatic improvement within this time span, I'm currently experiencing lots of new regrowth on the temples and at the front. Only small and weak hairs, but regrowth nevertheless. Hopefully over the next couple of months they will turn in to terminal hair.

Like I stated earlier though, you need to seek medical advice regarding your temple soreness. Obviously if your continously scratching this maybe causing uneccessary frontal hairloss.

I read on a site a person claimed he did not see drastic results on Propecia until 5-6 years later on the medication. I am on 2 and half years now and I am FINALLY seeing things getting better. Hair cycles take a lot of patience. You have to wait at least minimal every 10 months to see if something is improving your hair. That is long time to wait and worry but that is how long it takes to see REAL changes. I cut my Propecia for over a month now to .5mg and my hair texture seems better now. I have no idea if that is coincidence or not. But I am happy so far.

I am not on rogaine cause i am loooking for maintenance instead of regrowth. What i am worried about actually is that the hair along my hairline is miniaturizing and is that suppose to happen when you are on treatment to reverse this miniaturization ? Does a shed on propecia cause the hair along the hairline to miniaturize or the treatment just simply havent start working yet?
