New to this forum, and have read some articles on that main site. I notice all the links to buy anything go to dead pages, so thought that was weird, but the info seems good.

So... right not I am probably around a Norwood 3V. I would say in the last 6 months my crown area has thinned dramatically after staying about the same for the past 10 years.
I started Minoxidil 5% topical (Kirklands) about a month and a half ago (no positive changes of course, this early on), and have really only been able to consistently apply 1x/day. trying to make myself fix that. I also use Nizoral 1% every 2-3 days. A Biotin / DHT inhibitor (supposedly) shampoo on most other days.

I have read that I "MUST" add finasteride if I think I'm going to be successful with regrowth. I tried propecia early on in college 24 years ago, with basically no help or info, so quit it after a while. I believe I had some sexual side effects. Havent tried since, so I am willing to look into it and research the sides again, if it is that "definitively" effective.

I am 44/white.. I have "straighter / thinner" individuals hairs than I used to, although plenty thick except for the areas defined on Norwood 3v. Also gets oily very quickly. I could never "not" shower in the morning if I didnt want my hair to look like its slicked down on my head.

What else should I put on the short list to try?

With this question you will get 100 different answers from 100 different people. Here's mine-

My regime is - Oral
MSM (anti inflammation, and to help sulphur deficiency we mostly all have nowadays)
Small dose saw palmetto (DHT)
Red ginseng (DHT)
Magnesium (to many positive reasons to list)
Small dose zinc and B6 (general well being)

Topical-
Don't really use a topical but use dead sea salt (volume/texture/cleansing) magnesium chloride (to many positive reasons) and witch hazel (google it, its great for scalp) in any water that I use to wash hair. Only wash 2-3 times a week max with mild sls free shampoo and very occasionally wash with normal SLS shampoo. Other days I use straight water with the above mixed in. I avoid oils(including essential)/gels/waxes/mouse like the plague . This technique has drastically reduced oily scalp and sebum production.

Diet - I include pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, onion ,garlic all to control (Not block) DHT and also very healthy. I eat a lot of redskins peanuts and beetroot. Also avoid to much dairy as we already get far to much calcium in western diets (see magnesium above to counter this!) But still a small amount milk and cheese now and again.

Doing all this has worked very well for me so far over last couple of years. But everyone will say something different and most people will require a different approach. I won't slate the big 3 as they are great for some, I tried them all years ago and def not great for me, they are not for everyone and not the only solution.
