Is there a way to reduce/prevent facial swelling?

I take Propecia (1.25 finasteride) and have experienced slight facial swelling and also have interest in starting minoxidil but am afraid of swelling/dark circles. Are the reasons for swelling the same with both meds, if not what are they? I read somewhere that there are pills that help distribute/balance water levels in the body as water retention was part of minoxidil's effect on the face.

It may seem counter-intuitive - but drinking lots of water helps resolve the puffy face issue.

Finasteride causes Cushing's syndrome in some unfortunate males, discontinue it immediately because ultimately you can get prosthetic hair, but you can't resolve facial damage unless you get entensive plastic surgery.

Finasteride causes Cushing's syndrome in some unfortunate males,

Do you have any studies to substantiate this claim? Just curious why you would say this.

My conclusion arises from people stating this in your own forum Mew. If you look in the section of your website which is 'other physical side effects.' I like many users have experienced fat loss from the area under the eyes and facial changes. Fortunately for me I got out just in time and am still a handsome devil but I will never touch finasteride again, never. Finasteride acts as a mild steroid to the bodys hormonal system however I respect that this side effect is extremely rare and it only happens in about 5% of cases. People on this forum such as Lucky Uk admit he has fat loss from under the eyes but continues with finasteride and wants more hair transplant which I respect also, however I am going to eat healthily, moisturize, exfoiliate, exercise regularly - all to stay as youthful as possible; and look for an alternative for my hair, its still in pretty good shape considering I'm 19, maybe get a wig later on in my life and I am wishing on a star for HM or Follica.

Yes I figured as such, was just wondering if you came across any additional documented materials which could prove such a connection 100%.

I'm aware of those physical side effects as well. The fact that Finasteride has been linked to myopathy, attributable to its structural affinity to corticosteroids(http://www.propeciahelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=589), and has been linked to glucocorticoid-induced myopathy by the FDA tells me there may be a connection to be made with adrenal issues:

http://www.fda.gov/ohrms/dockets/ac/97/ ... 3352t1.rtf

"Also, in this year, there is a report showing that in a patient treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia, there is an occurrence of severe reversible myopathy associated with finasteride use, and this was clinically and histologically resembling glucocorticoid-induced myopathy."

http://www.evosof.com/asiatox/papers/Fi ... atitis.pdf

"Taken these together, finasteride-induced acute hepatitis was diagnosed. He received steroid pulse therapy (Methyl Predonisolone Sodium Succinate 500 mg/day for 3 days consecutive) immediately after admission. His physical condition and blood test improved rapidly, and returned to normal status 20 days after admission. "

The drug they gave the above man is an anti-inflammatory, acts on the adrenals as a replacement for Cortisone, and is a glucocorticoid medication.

Sorry Mew I haven't, mind you I haven't looked becauase I don't see any relevance in looking deeper into this, some of your users though have posted interesting links.
You have a much more scientific mind than me Mew but for layman terms:

Cushing syndrome occurs in some males when they play about with their hormones

Finasteride plays with your hormones.

Anyone who is experiencing hair loss and wants to try finasteride that's great. I still would reccomend it to people however pay close attention to your face, the minute you see fat redistribution of your face or thinner skin uder the eyes discontinue immediately and never touch it again.

If someone was willing to pay me a high sum of money I would go on 0.25mg of finasteride for a week just to prove it. And it would have to be a very very high amount of money, ain't touching it ever agian otherwise. If you ever become a millionaire Mew and want to shut down Merk send me a pm.
