Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering if it's good to use nioxin - the shampoo cleanser? I saw it at the pharmacy today and bought it (so expensive!) I'm just wondering if its good to use this. I'm also smearing minoxidil 5% on my head (it's the 61st day) and take aldactone orally (approx. half of the 100 mg tabs) - its the 9th day of that. I also take a lot of supplements - MSM powder, flax tabs, epo tabs, vit B, Zn, vit C, lysine and Fe. I ALSO saw this spray on thingie at the health store today - one of the ingredients was saw palmetto 40mg - I've now forgotten what the %age was of saw palmetto in it. Do you think it would be good? It's all very expensive that's the only thing :( Do you think I should be adding more stuff in? Please reply! Thanks so much! - Ann.

Hmm....I might have posted this up on the wrong forum or something - perhaps this should go in the treatments thingie rt? whoops...

Nioxin is a very nice shampoo. Should leave your hair looking good. Gentle too.

Why are you taking aldactone if you don't mind my asking?

Topical saw palmetto had no support for hair loss that I have seen.

BruceLee, many women are prescribed Spironolactone/Aldactone for hair loss. Be informed and please read :) http://www.heralopecia.com/treatments/a_androgens.php

As for Nioxin, sure it may leave your hair nice and clean but in terms of hair LOSS it won't do squat. Please look into Nizoral, as the active ingredient, ketoconazole, has been shown to help with hair loss. http://www.heralopecia.com/treatments/a ... opecia.php (the bottom of the page)

As for topical saw palmetto, it's true, don't waste your money! And frankly, even taken orally it won't do much.

As for losing so much when washing, please know that the longer you wait when washing, the reason is that those hairs were bound to fall out, regardless if you were to wait only 1 or 2 days or even 5 or 6 days. It is good to keep your hair clean, especially your scalp. It will prevent dirt and other build up, which can be detrimental towards the health of your scalp.

Here's a little bit extra info on this kind of stuff.

Take care Ann, hang in there :)

Thanks Laura-BruceLee,

What a bummer...I paid 28 bucks for that nioxin shampoo!!

You know what, I think aldactone is such a bothersome drug....really....it's a huge pain! So far - it's lowered my blood pressure to dangerously low levels, given me SERIOUSLY dry eyes (I got corneal abrasion from THAT I reckon) ...I'm leaving for a break for about a month...I think I'll take a break from the aldactone - I'm on 50 mg now and it's only the 13th day - so far, effect on my hair has been ZILCH - effect on everything else has been MAJOR. :(
