I've been incredibly stressed the last few months and I've recently noticed hair falling out more than usual. My hair looks mostly normal when dry, but it looks incredibly thin when wet. Pictures attached. Any advice is appreciated. First two pics are what my hair looks like wet and brushed straight back. I am 22 years old. Recently had a haircut, if that matters.

My hair looks like that when wet and combed back. I hopped on finasteride and nizoral twice a week. 4months later, no crown regrowth and now my hairline is getting destroyed. Rip.

This is why I'm worried about starting treatments with risks like finasteride - if it doesn't work, it really sucks!

I still am not sure if this is diffuse thinning or if my hair just clumped up funny and is naturally thin. A lot of hair fell out today, but I have been under a lot of stress so again, not sure.

Yea it's a struggle....and just like yours, my hair looks ok when dry too. Could just be the fact that we naturally have low density fine hair ‍♂️

Do you recommend minoxidil for my type of thinning (if i have it)? Pictures in the op.

I'm worried about the side effects of the pill vs min.
Honestly, the sides for finasteride are nothing (at least for me) and I'm like the most neurotic, anxious person ever. I sometimes get slight ball ache and tiredness, but nothing extreme.

Realistically i think only about 10% will get sides from finasteride and they will disappear when you stop (unless you are very unlucky) so worth a go!

@Unlucky93 got pics of your hair before and after finasteride?
Not really. I'll take some tomorrow.

1st pic is before finasteride.
2nd and 3rd pic is 3months in to finasteride.
Later pics are of my hair as of last week.

Got a blood test on the 19th. Praying that I'm found to be deficient in vit.D so I can do something about this hairloss. Not even noticing shedding.

I think you are a good candidate because you do have hair and it works the best in this kind of thining...so in my opinion give it a try.But you have to be mentaly prepared to use twice every day and it needs patience to see results and eventually maintain them.

See, I already have some health issues that cause me anxiety (already have ball ache and such). Might stick to min or just let it go I guess.
I think I'll give min a try then. I'm most worried about the shedding at first. How was that for you?

I'm a little worried about finasteride because I already have some of the symptoms, like ball ache, and some other issues of that type, so I'm worried it might amplify those issues.

Ya, give min and nizoral a try first, then if nothing has improved and you feel up to it, maybe try finasteride. You can always stop if you get sides.

And honestly, it's so hard for me to be accurate about my shedding because I bleached my hair twice and had it permed all within like 2months, so my hair was breaking and falling out anyway.

I haven't noticed any excess shedding since I've been on finasteride, but my forelock and hairline seem to be thinning :/

What's the hair situation in your family? Grandfather, father, uncle?

Hmmm, alright. I'll def give min a try. I don't know much about nizoral. I'm a bit of a hypochondriac so finasteride is proooobably not the best idea for me tbh. I just need my hair to last me through law school so I don't look awkward in interviews lol. No idea how I would look if I shaved it all off

At least there's more than one of us haha. My father is like NW6, says it started going in his 30s. Also mother's side grandfather was bald. However, a good 5/6 of my uncles have full heads of hair so I guess I just got unlucky.

Any opinions on how badly I am thinning? I am a little confused because everything looks great when its dry, but I have these huge scalp spots when its wet. What's worked for you?
