In the past, I was getting the 5mg Proscar tablet and cutting it in 1/4 for daily usage.

Recently a week ago, I went to refill my Proscar and now the tablet has changed. It is no longer the labled Proscar blue triangular tablet, now it is a round blue pill. Is this the new generic Propecia pill that was supposed to come out in July? On my prescription bottle it still states 5mg and to cut in 1/4. Thanks

A picture of it would be great but I think would think that a generic Propecia would be the same dosage as the brand propecia, 1 mg. It shouldn't have to be cut. :?

Hi Guys,

The RX bottle states Finasteride 5mg and it is to be cut into 1/4 for daily dosage. It also says that it is to be substituded for the Proscar 5mg. I guess that this is not the new 1mg generic Propecia. Anyone know what the new 1mg generic Propecia pill looks like? Thanks in advance

Hey SoonSurgery,

I asked my derm today and he said he hasn't heard about generic Propecia being made available in US pharmacies yet.

jayman, i think only proscar is non longer patent protected. You should have asked your nurse if generic proscar is available. Not to worry. I can just call a bunch of pharmacies to find that out, without paying a medical person.

CCS, yes you are correct. My derm said that generic proscar is available. But why is that? Was Propecia patented after Proscar? I could have sworn the patent for Propecia expired in June 2006.
