Gentlemen!

I am using 1/4 of Proscar for about one months and last. I do not suffer any side effects like lost libido (well I did first few days, but than I feel little bit more horny than before), gyno, fog or something like that.

BUT, I started to feel itching on my scalp. Especiall left side vertex and left temple - places where I have lost most of my hair. I suffered from Telogen Effluvium which has stopped, but now in last days it seems that these places are thinning. I dont think it is sign of regrowth. Itching and sometimes burning is really there and it is very unpleasant to me.

I was trying not to eat certain food, Vitamins, herbs, not use any topical or shampoo but it is still there. So I am thining if there is not some kind of allergy to Finasteride...

Has anyone experience the same effect while on Propecia - itching, burning on scalp? Oh and I have absolutely no dandruff at all.

Have you ever had the burn before starting? If it started after Propecia, thats not not good. I can't think of why finasteride would do that, but perhaps the testosterone increase could be a reason? Not sure.

To test this theory, you could try Avodart. If the itching, burning sensation gets more intense, it probably is the T increase. If it gets better, then its not. Avodart just might be a better medication in some cases. No idea if that is true or not or why.

Good luck.

Btw, I sometimes wonder if the importance of inhibiting Type I 5AR is underestimated. I have heard numerous reports that Avodart stops the terrible male pattern baldness itch or at least reduces it. I think this may have something to do with it since Type I is found in the sebaceous glands and scalp.

Perhaps both types really should be inhibited in some cases. There is still so much unknown about male pattern baldness, particularly the itch associated with it.

Strange though, some get the itch others don't. My dad was a Norwood 3 at 19, but never once had any scalp burning or itch.

I on the other hand am in my mid 20s and a diffuse Norwood 2 that has progressed slowly since 19. And ever since the thinning started, the scalp burning has been very intense and painful. Sometimes it bleeds. T-Gel and Nizoral seem to help a little.

It's funny, I don't recall having scalp itch before getting on finasteride either. I didn't have any scalp itch for 1 month into the treatment either, but after I started using liquid minoxidil for 3 weeks last fall it f*****g destroyed my scalp. I've had the scalp itch ever since. I was off finasteride for a month this year and the scalp didn't get back to normal, it was on/off itching like it is now. My bro is thinning just as bad as I but doesn't have the itch (he hasn't been on any treatments).
