Ok, so here's my story. Will try to keep it short..
Started loosing hair (3 yrs ago) when I was 24. Steady loss over the years, only in the middle and forehead, not on the sides. See pics below.
Dad and brother both had hair loss problem and I was going down the same path.
Very reluctant to start with finasteride so a year ago started with Saw palmetto (350 mg/day). And last November got on to minoxidil(5 %). Stopped saw palmetto last month as it had zero effect on my hair. minoxidil on the other hand, worked alright but hair is still shedding in month 7.
Buzz my hair every month keep it short so that minoxidil can be applied easily. Went to a Dermatologist last month, he examined me and said it was male pattern baldness and said he would not prescribe me propecia or any other meds and I should "sooner or later come to terms with it ". He however, referred me to another Doctor who in his opinion could gibe me the prescription for propecia. All these months was doing my research on finasteride and found that generic works just as good as branded.
Ordered finpecia from an online pharmacies. The first delivery got bungled up and they shipped FINCAR. Was absolutely livid as I was so looking forward to the meds. Anyway, I complained about it to their customer service and they reshipped FINPECIA for free.
On May 26 2008, finally took the plunge and started on 0.5 mg finpecia. No difference yet, have buzzed my hair but its still shedding like before. Using minoxidil along with finasteride now. Below is a list of things I have observed so far in my battle against hair loss
1. Saw palmetto was not effective in my opinion as no one knows the correct dosage. Have read on some website that 1200 mg per day is what is required. But again, there is no test conducted at this dosage and henec would not risk it.
2. After a few months on Saw palmetto, I noticed that sperm was a little watery.
3. Its been almost 2 weeks on finasteride and my sperm has actually thickened like its of a 18 yr old. I know its too early as it might turn watery later. No other side effects upto now. Buzzed my hair but its still shedding like before so I guess no results from 0.5 mg Finpecia so far.
4. Have dropped minoxidil application to once a day. Achieve the same results as applying it twice a day.
5. For some reason, when I buzzed my hair on the pat 2 occassions, I started loosing hair till they grew longer and then few hairs were shed.
Am applying minoxidil all this while.
Can anyone comment on buying generic finasteride from an online pharmacy. Are they genuine?

0.5 mg finasteride daily
minoxidil 5 % once daily
Nizoral 2% every other day
Do any of yuz feel I should up the ante a bit and start taking 1 mg finpecia everyday?? Also is there a time during the day that I should take finpecia to increase its effectiveness.?? opinions/advice/comments will be much appreciated.
