Hi everybody,
This is my first post here, and I have done much reading and research.
To begin with, I'm 26 years old and I am an aircraft mechanic. About 6 months ago, after having long hair for about a year, first time in my life I ever had it so long (grew it down to my shoulders), and dyed the color a few good times also.. plus I used a straightening chemical like a dumbass.
I think those factors did contribute to my thinning, which is currently in early stages. I have lots of longer hairs around my thinner crown area.. and with gel I can still 'cover up' anything so it looks fairly natural unless you get up-close to look at it. I have dark, thick Italian hair, and it's about 1 1/2 inches long currently all the way around, shorter on the sides, I usually slick my hair back with gel.
Anyway, I was alarmed when I started to notice the feel of my hair thinning, the wind is more noticable now too
I rushed to the dermatologist, and got an Rx for Propecia 1mg, which is currently free for me for 1 year (government program since I'm currently in school and not working), and 12 refills obviously. He also gave me a sample of Rogaine 5%.
So I've been on Propecia for about a month now, and I ran out of 5% so I got 2% by accident, instead. I use it only once per night, sometimes a little in the day just on the crown.. always using enough to cover the crown and frontal head area too, but mostly the crown. I do this after freshly showering and shampooing my hair. When I get out, I use a fine tooth comb and give my head a good combing, itching the scalp feels good and I don't do it too hard, just nice and easy... slicking it back. After that I apply a few drops of the minoxidil, and 'mush' my hair downwards with my palms to 'rub' in the solution.. then I let it sit for a few minutes and comb the scalp again. I do get a few drips running down my neck and forehead but I wipe them up quickly.
Some days I will use Emu oil on my scalp, to reduce irritation. I normally wash about 3 times a week with Nizoral 1%, and rotate that with Nisim. I normally do not condition, very rarely.. and I am going to start because my hair is dry feeling. I am going to add Folligen Conditioner w/ copper peptides soon also.
I take the Propecia 1mg. daily also.
I also take a standard multi-vitamin.
I will soon be adding Folligen Spray to my regimin, on weekly rotation with my Emu oil applications.
As far as shedding, I did notice it for a few weeks, it has really started to slow now recently. It does not scare me I've read plenty of positive things about shedding. My head feels pretty good now that I've added the Emu oil !
I feel that this is a fairly solid regimin for a beginning crown-thinner such as myself. I DO have male balding on my mother's side, my grandfather was completely bald, as was his son my Uncle. So my MAIN purpose with my regimin, is to MAINTAIN & REGROW as much as I can, and to have great looking healthy hair as long as I can in my life !
I just wanted to see what everybody thought of my regimin before I started posted in the main areas. Any suggests and/or comments are of course very welcome !!
Thanks guys, talk to you soon in the main areas ! :hairy:
