Hello guys, quick introduction, I'm a 25 yrs old CG artist. I need advice on my hair loss condition.

For the past 1 and half months, i have been noticing a drastic increase in my hair drop from shampoo, around 20 strands on my hands, not counting the ones that got wash away. When the hair is wet, the scalp is freaking obvious, and it scares me every time.

Am i suffering from male pattern balding? My hair loss applies to my whole scalp, esp the vertex. My hairline is still the same as before. The overall volume of my hair has decreased significantly in just a month time. Does hair loss hit us so suddenly?

Is there any chance that my hair loss is due to other factors like diet or scalp problem? I also noticed my scalp to be itchy some times, but no noticeable dandruff or serious redness.

For your info, time when i realized an increase in hair loss, is also the time when i start adding barley grass juice and vitamin E into my diet. Is it just coincidence or my body can't handle this 2 new supplements?

Thanks in advance for any advice... i am seriously at my wits end. :(

Your hairline is good, but there is some definite thinning at the crown. You are lucky because propecia can really help you. go to a derm and get a script and within a year you will have a post in success stories!

Thanks guru. I'm still deciding whether to go into propecia because of the cost and the need to take it long term. I'm seeing a specialist this friday to analyze my condition, will decide whether to take it then.

One question on using Nizoral shampoo. Do you guys wash your hair with another shampoo first before washing with Nizoral? I heard from someone that the first shampoo can wash off the dirt before the treatment with Nizoral. But personally i'm not sure whether my scalp can handle it. Anyone has any views on this?

Wow Jimmy, your hair mirrors mine exactly when I started thinning, but you are soon getting on treatments whereas I didn't. For cost, try asking your derm to prescribe proscar, its the same thing but cheaper. My friend who started on just proscar has his hair loss almost completely reversed, so start asap and you will be happy. Use the nizoral about 3x a week on its own, don't shampoo with something else first, thats hair overkill!
Good luck brother.

Thanks love, you have given me more reason to take finasteride.

Just curious, what treatment are you under now? Would like to know the progress of someone having the same condition as me. Hope everything is working well for you.

I am on the big three, proscar, nizoral 2%, and minoxidil 5%. I believe that if I took proscar when i first started shedding, I would be in much better shape, like you for example. The proscar I believe really took away the dreaded itch associated with male pattern baldness. I had the itch for about 6 months before someone pointed out i was losing hair. For cost use proscar, its the same as propecia but cheaper which works for me. Try the proscar for 6-12 months, then if you like you can get on minoxidil. As for my success, I can say that my crown has filled in nicely but my temples not so much. I've been on foam since september, use it on my temples to see if it fills in. Go to your doctor and get a prescription for proscar ASAP, your success depends on it. Good luck and post again soon in the success stories.

I am in a similar situation. I was wondering if I could get away by using Revivogen.

Way I see it, it makes sense to escalate it in the following manner:
1. Revivogen: This has no side effects and if it works, it can be used sporadically (3-4 times a week) one the desired effect has been reached.
2. propecia / proscar: If #1 does not work. This is a second choice to me because of the possible sexual side-effects. I would consider this to be better than #3 because it can be safely discontinued / toned down once the desired results have been acheived.
3. Rogaine: This is the least desirable option because you hair becomes "addicted" to it - you have to use this religiously or else things will go south fairly quickly.

Does my reasoning make sense to the veterans of the hair wars?

Re: Need help on my condition - Lossing hair @ 25 wif Pics

Bought 2 months supply of proscar from a pharmacy after getting a prescription from derm. Today is the first day of my regime with it, together with nizoral 2%. I must say i'm really a bad cutter of pill, can't seem to cut it nicely into 4 equal parts. :thumbdown2:

Wanna ask how long does it averagely takes for the result to show? Will there be a initial shedding after taking finasteride? Hope to see some results soon, will update. :)

I'm pretty interested in revivogen, it seems to have the same effect as finasteride except the libido side. Need to read up more on this before jumping into it. Would love to hear anyone's experience after using it.

Thanks you guys, i really learn a lot from this forum. And special thanks to those who post in my thread :) . I hope you all r doing well in the combat against hair loss. Bless you.

Re: Need help on my condition - 8th month

Hi guys, hope u all r doing fine. Sorry for not updating, cos since my camera phone got lost(pics with my months of progress, dam :( ), i hasn't been taking pictures of my hair. I will be getting a new one soon, hopefully can get some pics to post.

Geez, been struggling lately. Already passed the 8th months mark since i started on the finasteride and nizoral regime. Didn't see any improvement or regrowth, in fact, the past 2 months has been shedding much. My diffuse thinning at the crown has spread over the side of the scalp, and my hairline is showing a little sign of thinning too. Am I not reacting to finasteride?

I also encounter occasional itch at the scalp which i thought has gone away since i took finasteride, and an increase in dandruff. My nizoral regime hasn't change so i'm not sure what the problem is. From this rate of shedding, i seriously feel it's a road of no return.

Should i just ride it out and continue with finasteride and nizoral? Or you think maybe i can try other med like dutasteride or saw palmetto?

Hard to say without pics, as you are used to seeing your hair all the time, it's easy to miss the fact that your hair has improved...

You had a good amount of hair when you started, so maintaining is the name of the game, do you still shed loads of hair all the time? if not, then i would say the proscar is working, but it would be good to compare any photos to your originals... :)

Thank you so much Petchsky :) I will upload the latest pics once i got them ready.

I have never stop shedding, just a matter of how much. For the last two months, the shedding has increase, judging from the hair drop during shower. I understand even when taking finasteride, i might encounter periodic heavy shedding. But what i'm real concern about is the recurring of the itchiness, which leaves me having some doubt on the effect of finasteride.

Is the return of the itchiness at my stage now normal?

Yeah, it was for me. Sometimes i'd get a tingling sensation in my scalp and i never knew if it was a good sign or not, but i guess it was a good sign as that was about 5 years ago and my hair has not got worse.

I probably will be seeing a Dermo soon for a review. Meantime, guess i just have to ride it out and hope for the best.
