I have been gradually losing my hair for about 7 years. It started when I was 19-20 yrs old. I am not bald, but my hair is thin on top. It looks identical to my granddad on my mom's side. He didn't start losing his hair until his 30's. He is still has hair on top, but its thin. I have been taking Finasteride 0.5mg/day since Aug 2010 and rotating daily between Selsun Blue and Nizoral 1%. At first, I could tell it was working. My hair felt denser, less greasy, and I gained some confidence. However, now I feel I have gotten much thinner and the treatment was all in my head. I decided to try the finasteride since it works best for younger men and I read that 0.5mg/day was almost as effective as 1mg/day. Does anyone have any advice for me? I am thinking about asking my doctor to write me a Rx for finasteride 5mg and splitting them in half because Wal-mart has the generic for $9/mo.
