Just got a shock after using hairdryer … crown thinning , cows lick or what on earth ???

So after the gym I decided under gym light to look at my crown after blow drying it …. I was shocked

I really want to know is this a thinning crown or my cows lick and I just never noticed it before …

first 2 pics after blow drying it … Last pics same lighting after styling it and letting the hair follow ther whirl patter at the crown…

First pics look like hair is straight up and the crown has a thinner look due to the hair going in a clockwise or counter clockwise pattern which means hair won't overlap like in the front. After styling the hair is flat allowing for more overlap

Looks like a thinning cowlick, don't push your hair forward and you're good. I have the same cowlick, I think the cowlick makes the thinning look worse than it actually is.

I find it so complex as I have a screwed up cows lick and the hairs around the whirl seem thick but then in some photos I think oh wow it’s def turning into a bald patch !!!

So you don’t think it’s thinning ? This is what I sometimes think. Its very confusing

Because none of us can tell. It does look unusual. I think I mentioned that only microneedling appears capable of smoothing out a cowlick but I am seeing a bit of a reverse cowlick in-growth as my hair comes in so I will have to see but I microneedled this area extensively. Cowlick used for part in front. Notice how diminished five years later. I was balding all of this time but it takes a while befoe we can see it but this is why I put texture changes as one of my signs of male pattern baldness that all guys need to be alert for once puberty starts. Increases in coarseness or frizziness are bad signs of what's to come, it the process continues. In the second pic, my hair would not look very good any longer. I am visibly bald in the crown in pic two in most lighting but my confidence was hurt far more because I knew baldness always progresses except maybe in front and I only had it in the crown for several years. Nasty chest hair starting and I used to have blond patches in my eyebrows that diminished as I have gotten older. Not much beard yet. I probably couldn't grow a proper one until the age of 30 perhaps. People wore mustaches then, so those were pretty eh.

Definitely crown thinning but it can stay like that for a decade or more with or without treatments. The balding gene can express itself at any time but it's impossible to predict exactly when and how much it will affect you.

Do you think it’s worse than 4 years ago when I jumped on finasteride 0.5mg daily … of course these were taken with a diff phone cam .

I would suspect you might be at the earliest stage of MBP so taking 1mg at this point would be a good idea. It might be ever so slightly worse but nothing significant.

I’ve been on 0.5mg daily for past 4 years and bumped it up to 1mg daily last month . Do you think this will suffice @DoctorHouse

Yes, see how you do. If you get worse, then add minoxidil if you want. You still have great hair where no one will notice anything is wrong but us expert Norwood spotters.

Why did you started using finas?
IMHO, finas is not a preventive method for common baldness, but just the other way around. You can be a perfect example fot it.
Take care, common hair loss is a slow process at first, which accelerates as time passes
