Just got my Fincar, scared! Help..

Well I was excited but worried about getting my Fincar in the mail today. Over the past week ive been reading some horror stories and don't know if im going to be taking it now. It seems, atleast on these boards, more people are experiencing side effects with finasteride than i hear about success stories. im 21. Norwood 2ish currently just on minoxidil. im so worried about the sides especially acne, sex drive, and especially GYNO! i work out religiously, eat very good, and take alot of interest in my body so getting Gyno would just kill me inside. What should i do guys? i know finasteride works better, but could i possibly see decent results with minoxidil and nizoral alone? has anyone had good results with just Min and nizoral?

Like you, I was scared about the side effects. I started finasteride anyway, and I have had NOTHING save for a couple of days of slight ball ache, followed by *increased* sex drive (which is slowly going back to normal levels heh).

I have noticed that most people who are having side effects are on finasteride AND minoxidil. Yet I have seen very little from people who are on just finasteride. In fact everytime I read a "help! panic! - side effects!" thread, the first thing I check is their regimen. Sure enough, they're using minoxidil.

I'm not saying that combining the two produces weird effects...I think it's solely caused by the minoxidil. Which is why I'm not touching the stuff.

If minoxidil is working well for you - great

But remember; minoxidil won't save your hair. It'll only stimulate growth of new hair. If you want to hang on to what you've got, get on the finasteride.

Unfortunatly, probably not great, depending on your current situation and also the history of male pattern baldness in your family.
minoxidil wont stop or slow down male pattern baldness, you need a dht inhibiter for that, which is the most important part of your treatment. Without that, you would still continue to lose hair

I cant really tell you what to do, but, I can say that I also worry about sides, but, I decided to take finasteride anyway and if I get sides that I feel are too much, Ill stop finasteride.

Thanks for the quick replies haunted ballroom. I was wondering your age, history of hair loss and current regimen as well as how finasteride is working for you? it seems the younger people (me being 21) are more prone to sides on finasteride than older folks, maybe because of hormones and such?

Im 23 and about a nw3-3.5. My uncles on both sides of my family are all nw7's and my father only started balding in his 50's. I started to notice hairloss at about 19 I think but only started to do something about it this year. Ive been on finasteride just over a month now and I may be experiencing mild sides, its hard to know for sure if its finasteride related though. I did a post here about ED the other day.

Hey dude, good luck with the Fincar! I just ordered my first 60 pills a few hours ago and I'm just trying to stay positive about it, since I've read so many horror stories on this forum. The decreased sex drive is really scary but hopefully it doesn't happen to me. I've been on 5% Minoxidil and Tricomin for almost a year but I'm not satisfied with the results. My hair did improve but just slightly.

I'm just trying to regrow my hairline and right temple, and I'm not sure how to classify my hair loss on the Norwood scale. It's just that my once straight hairline started to thin out in some places.

Once the pills come I'll be on Fincar, 5% Minoxidil and Nizoral.. Damn, all this at just 22.. The pains of growing up! :freaked2:

hehe relax! youll think your having sides even if your not if you get freaked
