Hello everyone,

I started viewing this forum today and decided that it was time for me to do something about my hair-loss and not just let it slowly turn me bald.

A quick history:

Male pattern baldness runs throughout my dad's side of the family including my dad and all of my uncles and grandfather.

My mother's father however did have his full head of hair and I was hoping that would save me but appareantly it hasn't.

I am nearly 24 years old and here is what my hair-lo3ss looks like as of of today 10-15-2006.

I probably started losing my hair for the past year and a half and so far for the past few months I've been taking daily vitamins (Centrum A-Zinc, Kirkland B complex (mainly because of biotin), vitamin e, and a vitamin c.

Today I however, after reading English's posts on here, decided to purchase Kirkland 5% Minoxidil (not the foam), revivogen shampoo, and 1500 mcg of MSM. (These should come in within the next week)

I'll hopefully update everyone with regular pics to see where this will take me.

I would like to atleast stop/reduce the hairloss and anything that grows in would just be great.

I have a few questions,

Should I be expecting massive shedding for the first few months of using Minoxidil before anything starts to show?

Also, I've read this from previous posts but does mostly everone agree that I should probably take 2 MSM's instead of just 1 at 1500?

Hopefully I'll have some positive results here to share with everyone

thanks everyone,

kam

you look like a diffuse thinner. can you take some pics of your hairline with it combed back to confirm that? you seem to be thinning all over the top of your scalp which would indicate a diffuse pattern. it also looks like it has been happening for some time. when did you notice exactly?

also with that much loss you should not be messing around with revivogen or other "Dht blocking" topicals. You should get a prescription for finasteride(Propecia) because it is much more effective at reversing/stopping hair loss.

now that I really think about it, I'd say that it was close to 2 years ago when I first started to notice.

I believe at first, you tell yourself.. "I think I've always had thin hair.. I'm just over thinking it"

I'd say it's been about 2 years til the point that you see today.

Here's some more pics of my hair wetted down and combed back.. I tried to get my hair line in there (if I'm right about what my hairline is)

Jay from reading you posts it seems like you never tried Minoxidil. Any reasons why?

From reading, it seems like Minoxidil does not have any sexual side effects and has been around for quite some time so I feel somewhat safe giving it a try.

I also though about propecia. I'm planning on going to the derm in a bit but any particular reasons why you didn't go with minoxidil?

Also, I believe you've been on your treatment for a few months now, how confident you feel that you'll grow everything youve lost back?

i plan to try it if im not happy with Avodart regrowth. But i didnt want to start both at teh same time because minoxidil doesnt work for some people and id have to stick with it forever never knowing if it worked. im going to give the avodart til next august and if im not happy with the results i will then add minoxidil.

Well, my minoxidil 5% came in today and I just put on my first application cause I got back from the gym and my hair was nice and clean.

The MSM came in yesterday as well and I started taking that.

We'll see what happens :)...

Wish me luck over the up coming months.

where u get your minoxidil from sharpie?

I think you have the same hair loss pattern as me. Stick to the minoxidil and make sure you cover your whole hair loss area. Keep on the vitamins and eat your red meats.

I got a year's supply of Kirkland 5% minoxidil from http://www.salonweb.com

it came in after 3 days or so.

I also got the Revivogen topical dht blocker shampoo from that website as well.

I got the MSM and Biotin from Drugstore.com.

I'm going to increase my red meat intake actually. I lift weights a bit and I've been taking Whey Protein for the last 4 to 5 months and I"ll continue to do that.

We'll see what happens. I couldn't just sit there and let male pattern baldness take all my hair without atleast a fight.

I'll update pix often.

You current treatment is not addressing the DHT issue which is the main issue. MSM can help your hair grow faster and maybe make it look healthier but it doesn't do anything to fight Male Pattern Baldness

I really think that you need to considered using some dht inhibiting treatments. The Revivogen shampoo is not enough and who knows if it even does anything.

I would recommend propecia, but if that scares you then look into topicals like Revivogen (not the shampoo), spironolactone, fluridil, etc.....just do a search on this site.

Nizoral shampoo is good to add also.

in the upcoming week i'm going to make a doctor apointment and inquire about finasteride.

I might as wel throw that in the bag as well. I just don't want to go limp :/

Not everyone goes limp.

I definitely notice a change in my libido from being finasteride but I can still perform and I will take the lowered libido with some more hair than a raging libido and no hair.

Kam, I'm 35 and I went limp for about the first 2 months but after that....hard as ever again just like always (and that's pretty good for a 35 yr old I think. )

I'm ok with finasteride at 49, started at 47, and have some regrowth.
You might get away with a lower dose in your twenties though. Good luck.

haha, thats good to know. I really think I'm just going to try this revivogen shampoo, minoxidil, vitamin regimen for a good number of months and if nothing happens then i'll go to the finasteride dutas route.

hopefully we'll see. In 2 weeks I'll update with some pics.. I think i'm not shedding as much but it's way too early to see if the minoxidil is working.

I like the revivogen shampoo though. my scalp really feels clean after i use it and i think it's deffinately a good leadway for the minoxidil.

Thanks. From reading these forums it really seems like most people are going with the pills in hopes of regrowth because they don't want to be comitted to using minoxidil twice a day.

hopefully i can keep it up but so far I have no problem dealing with it.

I was talking to an older friend who used to take proscar for his prostate but started reading a lot of articles about it causing cancer so he stopped. When i hear stories like that, it makes me just want to stay with minoxidil and the dht scrubbing shampoo instead of risking cancer in order to keep my hair.
