Ketoconazole 2% Causes Thinning? Has Anyone Had A Problem With Ketoconazole?

My hair situation was more or less stable for the last 2 years without using anything. In August 2017 I had been reading a lot about the fabulous Ketoconazole (Nizoral) and I decided to try it. I have used it for about 4 months, but I just did a 'check' of my hair with lights and double mirrors and my hair has never been in more shitty conditions.

Now my left temple area is fading quickly, in an asymmetric way, and in general all my top looks a lot more thin and see-through. All this after years of very stable situation. Now, this could be a massive coincidence and it would have happened even without Ketoconazole, but it's really suspicious.

Or maybe this could be the famous initial shedding that some talk about? I really hope this is reversible, even using it only 2 times a week and for a 15 minutes application. Any opinion / suggestion is very welcome...

Ket lists as side effect hair loss.

It also affects pge2 synthesis, not surprising. Positive effect of affecting androgen and pgd2 synthesis usually overweight though.
So it might just as well be shedding.

moisturizing conditioner might be a good idea. Are "Garnier Fructis" conditioners okay? (german markets are full of them ^^)

It's a pretty harsh hair shampoo, it probably just stripped your hair of it's natural oils. Dry and brittle hair can appear thinner, maybe add a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner on off days. There shouldn't be any initial shed phase with the use of Nizoral Shampoo as none of the active ingredients penetrate the skin to cause any hormonal changes which is the usual culprit of shedding.

I know you posted a source on Ket (when used topically) not causing hormonal changes before when we talked, but I can't seem to find it. Could you post it again?

Does Ket affect androgens when used topically?

You asked, remember that. I don't think that shampoo does sh*t.

As a matter of fact, I know females that use it, and are STILL LOSING THEIR HAIR. That's right,
FEMALES.

Think about that. There's really NO PROOF with ONE PERCENT. That said, all published scientific
studies use the prescribed amount of TWO PERCENT. And if that is really not that good.

Bottom line: use it, just don't DEPEND ON IT.

Not sure, I think it were mostly the receptors. It messes with a lot of stuff actually and if you check it out yourself, you will be surprised how toxic ket is. Check out the oral version, it is actually hepatic toxic. I wouldnt mess with penetration on this for sure.

As per most users on the German forum I use the creme. Do you think that's dangerous?

Auch muss ich fragen, wie viel Uhr ist es dort? Schlafst du nicht oder?

No topically at 2% should be generally fine. I personally do not use it, as I like my other prostaglandins.

Ja, ich geh jetzt schlafen ;)

I use it and sometimes i notice an outburst of shedding or inflammation I've learned it's probably because you're using it too much i'd just slow down on it until you notice an improvement

Within a month of 2% keto 3x a week, lost most of my temples and a lot of hairline at a rate I'd never seen before. Stayed on over the counter 1% for another month hoping for regrowth, but nothing changed. Horrible scalp itch/redness as well. Point being, the sh*t can be real harsh for certain scalps. I have pics documenting the shock loss too.

3 times a week is too much! 2 at most. I do once.
