Hi.
I'm 20 years old, and just over a year ago, i noticed my hair was thinning, and my hairline was going back. I started to worry, and found this site, and have been reading along since. I started Propecia about 6 months ago, but went off it for around 2 weeks, but i'm back on it now. I tried Rogaine foam, and it seems that i've become alergic to it, wich you can read here
viewtopic.php?f=46&t=41634

I'm really embarrassed about my hair now, as it's become much worse the past few months, and i'm only 20. My dermatologist gave me Propecia, and "Stieprox" shampoo, says ciclopirox olamine 1.5%. But i havn't noticed it working. I'm going to start using Nizoral. I started taking a daily high potency Multi-Mineral/Multi-Vitamin, and i think I'm going to start taking a flaxseed oil pill, and "Vitamin B5". I want to try Min New York, or Revivogen, but can't afford it right now.

I was reading the Rogaine Foam booklet, and it mentioned "low body iron" might be the main problem. I used to be Amnemic, but the doctor said i wasn't anymore last time. I admit my eating and sleeping habbits have not been good the past couple years cause of my school Program, so i'm worried i may be Amnemic again. Or i'm just not eating right. I'm going to go get checked for that soon, and also get some blood work done.

I'd appreciate all the help please.
Should i take any other vitamins? Besides being checked for Iron, for me being Amnemic, what else should i get checked? Any suggestion or comment is helpfull, and i got alot of pics.

the past couple years

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

Hey Kyle, welcome to the board bro :)

Wow yeah you can really see the difference between the 2005 and 2007 pics. Your hair looked great in 2005. Its amazing what can happen in just a couple of years. But you say you only noticed your hair thinning a year ago? I dont mean to belittle your situation, but your current situation is not good and to go from not noticing your thinning hair a year ago, to your current situation seems incredibly sudden. Is there a chance you never really payed that much attention to your hair? Anyway i read your Rogaine Foam thread. have tried using Liquid minoxidil? As for Vitamin Supplements I really think you cant go past a good multi-vitamin.

Anyway all hope is not lost, I think you have a great chance of growing alot of your hair back, as your still young and the hairloss is very recent, but you need to fight this from ALL angles. In your current state at only 20 I really think you need to be on dutastride, its ALOT more powerful than Propecia. I know your allergic to foam but you really cant afford to leave Minoxidil out of the equation right now. You need to try some other options here, including Dr Lee's minoxidil or standard liquid Rogaine. Don't forget Nizoral either.

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

Kyle, i was wondering, was the swelling of your face very noticeable while on the foam? Did you get any others sides as well, like a rash or teary eyes? Did you face feel like there was pressure on it or numbness?

Also, good luck with propecia, you might see results after a year or so. You could add Dr. Proctor's Proxiphen-N, that seems to help people who cannot take minoxidil. If your worried you might be anemic again make damn well sure you check it out thoroughly again. It sucks to see how quickly you progressed, I think maybe you should buzz your head and stick with the propecia and add proxiphen-n. You could see results, don't lose hope. Good luck.

yeah, feels good to read a story like that :)

anyway

I guess i never really payed too much attention to my hair...
also what is Dutastride? and Dr. Lee's minoxidil
when i search these on google, i dont really come up with anything. Can you reccomend a site where I can purchase these? And a description of them?
I'll give liquid minoxidil a try soon, i just wish all these weren't so expensive...

Dogs3
Yes, the swelling was very bad. Everyone noticed, said it looked like i was punched in the face. It itched like crazy, and even my ears started to itch and swell. It was kind of rashy, but no teary eyes, though my eyelids were oily. I don't think i was numb, just really itchy.
also got a site where i can find info, and buy Dr. Proctor's Proxiphen-N ?

also, i shower and shampoo and condition every day. Although a couple months ago, i switched to washing my hair with cold water. And now i think i'll just shampoo and condition a couple times a day. I used always shampoo with hot water...
i dunno, just read that that could be a problem. Thanks again!

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

Kyle, heres the site for Prox-N its dr. Proctors own webpage

http://www.onlyhairloss.com/proxn/?source=google

Also, though, this site sells it for less. Dr. Proctor posts once in awhile on hairlosshelp.com and he said this version might be a bit watered down (it is cheaper) but he said its basically the same stuff heres the link:
http://www.lef.org/newshop/items/item00321.html

Also, Dr. Lee's site is http://www.minoxidil.com
You have to become a patient of his first by sending him an email, the site looks like crap, i know, but Dr. Lee is a stand up guy and anyone here will tell you his stuff is legit, in fact even the moderator here Cassin uses it and the mod over on hairlosshelp does too. However, i heard a rumor hes about to retire and not accpeting more patients, it might just be a rumor though, its worth a shot to email him.

But you should make sure it is the minoxidil in the rogaine foam that you are allergic too, and not some other ingredient in the foam. If its the minoxidil, you should bother trying another minoxidil product but it might be worth a shot to test another one.

Also, Dutasteride is another DHT inhibitor just like propecia. It is claimed to be more powerful but it is not FDA approved, however, it works just like propecia and a lot of people here take it but some try to avoid it for fear of sides which are more common on this drug than propecia. If i were you id stay on propecia and maybe add dutasteride down the line.

Still more, some people who cannot take minoxidil use something called spironolactone cream, its a topical dht inhibitor. I dont know much about it but Dr. Lee also sells this stuff too. Check things out then make your decision, good luck.

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

also, feel free to ask me more questions and ask questions on the other forums here too. when i started out and was losing my hair back in May i didnt know jack sh*t about hair loss treatments, i was taking some bogus stuff pushed around on scam sites. I learned a lot quickly here and im better off for it now.

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

Thanks Dogs3. Couldnt of put it better myself. But I still think Dutas is a good option for this guy coz he is only 20 years old, he is heading for a definite NW7 before he is 25! His hairloss looks very aggressive. He needs something with a little more power ie: A type 1 & 2, DHT inhibitor (dutas). Then again maybe he should just give finasteride a shot first, then possibly make the switch later if he needs too.

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

Thanks for the info Dogs3, i'm going to look into all this, this weekend.
Also... i just noticed last night, that the propecia i have is 1mg... don't most people have 5mg? Should i go see my dermatologist for a new prescription for 5mg? so maybe i should try the 5mg before dutas.

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

no, no. Propecia 1 mg is the standard dosage. the people who have the 5mg dosage is called proscar, people get it and cut it into 4ths or 5ths to save money. What you have is the correct dose.

And Metalheadude, i agree, i think dutasteride may be worth looking into if propecia doesnt give great results in another couple months

Re: Kyle's Story 20 Years Old

The more recent your hair loss is, the greater the chance there is for a better recovery.

Getting your hair back to the original pre-male pattern baldness stage is not very possible, but at least you can improve your hair a great deal if you response to the drugs well.

Given your young age and recent loss, I think Big 3 should do wonder for your hair, GL mate!
