Lack of bald men on television shows

I am surprised at how few normal non-black bald men are present in television shows, and are portrayed in a normal light. Usually, if a guy is bald, he is portrayed as socially challenged, or evil.
Leading men who are in their 50s/60s, even them, all have hair. CSI, Fringe, NCIS.

The only exceptions which come to mind:
Stewart in Star Trek
Chiklis (though he catered to the buff tough guy image)
Enrico Colantoni in Veronica Mars (he was just a smart, competent, balanced guy)

leading men who are bald in tv shows is like the same as leading women who are overweight in tv shows.

it's never going to happen, at least not in a positive light.

the one case of patrick stewart was the exception to the rule, most wear wigs, and i hear patrick was close to wearing a wig (he wore one for the audition i beleive - as he always did)

well actually that being said you have talk show hosts like dr. phil!

i doubt youd get fat girl talk show host!

or maybe you do i don't know.

according ot tv, bald men don't exist...not even balding men exist, also fat chicks barely exist to.

Coolest guy on tv - hair or no hair. He is hilarious and awesome and has a nice(ish) looking wife. See what us baldies can do with a bit of confidence.... :woot:

The dad from Malcom in the Middle? Full head. I don't care if he shaves with a razor he is not a baldie. Now Locke from Lost is a more recent positive example of a bald character on TV.

you find him positive?

i always hated seeing his head. :sobbing:

it reminded me of me, and he was like a 50 year old man, but i looked like him at 22, i really didn't like watching lost mainy for his bald head.

all it did was re-enforce the idea that bald men are older and frail, and he wasnt good looking or barely potrayed as cool at all, unlike patrick!

i found it mentality disturbing, becuase it reminded me of what id be like if i continued down the path of bald (loney older man that just looks naf bald in his 50s as he did in 20s)

he was in his 50s playing a bald role, just like patrick stewart in star trek. :sobbing:

just yet another OLD "fully" bald man on TV!

i think the only young ( <35 year old ) bald man in movies is vin diesel, but since he's built like a truck and plying a stereo type it just cancels out the baldness.

now thansk to lost if someone sees a 20 year old bald man that ISNT in stereotype bald man mode they will think of 50 year old john locke, fantastic!

No not the dad. It's Hank (his brother in law) Dean Norris who's a pretty cool guy it seems and he's slick bald with a bit of horseshoe hair.

Locke was a positive character because he overcame his insecurities and his disability to become a strong, independent multi- dimensional character that is so rarely portrayed in the media. And Vin gets temporary micro pigmentation for his F&F movies so that alone disqualifies him. I think only at the end of Tokyo Drift he makes an appearance without the makeup. But I think your own personal bias is getting in the way of recognizing the positive attributes of Locke's charater on Lost. From your above post, I can get a real taste of how hyper-critical and intolerant you are of not only bald people but also older folk. Baldist and ageist ey?

im not baldist or ageist.

if anythign im saying the media is a baldist/ageist im not sure.

im just saying not in terms of his personality or his overcomings.

im just saying about his general look and appearance and age, its just yet another tv show or movie with the not so easy on the eyes bald guy who is 50 and has no wife/kids and is depressed on life and socially a bit wierd.

why can't it be jack who is bald, or that yonng 20s something rock star guy?

and did he get any female attention during the show versus the two or three NW1 hunks?

of course not, becuase the only people who are fully bald are ugly-ish 50 year old loney men who are losers or whatever.

why cant there be a good looking bald guy who is 20, or 30, it just makes more people associate bald with old man.

so what im saying is its really bad, its very unsetteling.

on vin diesel im sure there is a few films of him slybald without the pigmentation, there is defo one or 2 movies i seen of him sly, he is like the only guy I can think of.

how do you have information on the pigmentation, do you have an artical, i heard someone say on this forum that maybe it was digitally edited in, but i guess a head tatoo would work to!

He was not the villain nor was he the fool. He may not have banged all the chicks on the island but he played an important role in the series. You must have just been looking at appearances and didn't bother to pay attention to the actual plot for you to miss his significance.

I was paying attention to the plot and he abviously had a pivitol role in the series, i just don't see how his baldness had anything to do with him being a good bald role model, his baldness just accentatiated his age in appearance, its not as if he overcame baldness by being the coolest guy on the island and looking great bald.

that is what im more getting at.

what im saying is that he didn't do anything amazing "despite" his baldness, it never got in the way because the baldness is irrelevant.

I just didn't like seeing him bald, i thought "what was the point" , and he DID start out a loser, and was pretty low down socially throughout the series compared to the fresh young looking NW1s who are all in 20s.

the only bald guy on the plane was a 50 year old man, how interesting!

obvisouly the black guy doesn't count!

Network TV only casts perfect people who are cookie cutter perfect in every way. Cable shows have plenty of normal people.
