Hi , i'm a 22 year old male.

first notice my hairline had receded when i was 12 years old (people took the pi*s when i not long started high school, said my hair was'nt stright) told my mum and she said its just the way your hair grows but i couldnt see any other guys with it as worse as mine.

i just tryed to forget about it and grow my hair long.

it receded a lot more when i was 16 and loads people were telling me im goin bald and that (my hair that i had was still very very thick tho)

years went passed and my hair stayed the same (i thought maybe it'll just stay like this.

when was 21 i stoped smoking weed (had been smokin constatly for 5 years every single day) after 2 weeks quiting my hair receded again and all my hair started breaking off loads of shorter bits! maybe it was stress? maybe smoking weed was slowing my hairloss? i had a lot of stress at the same time aswell.

noticed it started thin at the back shortly after too and my hairs no were near the thickness it was a few years ago.

i went to my doctor few months ago and said about it worry me and showed him but he just gave me a dodgey look like i was wasting his time and said its not a health issue and did nothing :(
so found a tricholgist and went there (id just read up on finasteride and minoxidil on net) i been thinking about hair transplants too.

i have been on minoxil 6% for 1 month 3 weeks (weird that its 6% not 5 but thats what it says on bottle tricologist gave me)

and (proscar) finasteride for 1 month 3 weeks too

noticed a few dark hairs on my parting and few around hairline ,just glad im doing something about it now.

any comments anyone has would be good. :)

sorry its so long!

welcome!, as you probably have read, stick with it for a year to see the results, by then you will know if you have gotten so regrowth

THC has a known effect on estrogen levels, why some men grow boobs from pot... i am sure it could do something to hair as well as all sex hormones are fairly close

Funny, when I was a kid, between the age of 16-18 years old I used to smoke weed all the time too and when I quit, I think I was like 19 years old and that's when I started to notice my hair receding. Maybe the added stress of life and college made my hairline worse, or maybe it had already started and I just never really paid attention, but it was probably just a coincidence.

hair loss doesn't look that bad yet.

proscar and rogaine should do the trick for you so keep at it.

Marijuana has DHT in it, which makes things worse for hair loss.

But it seems like if you smoke up regularly, it lowers your testosterone level, which maybe lowers DHT production.

When I stopped smoking weed, I noticed my hairline got worse as well.

I think you mean "THC." I doubt MJ has DHT in it, or other human male sex hormones.

Yes, smoking MJ lowers your testosterone. But this isn't good... Testosterone is what makes you active, focused, interested, and happy in life... A stoner tends to lack all of these things.

Quitting weed can produce a variety of effects on the psyche, but it's definitely healthier in the long run.

Sorry for my anti-pot propoganda, guys.

Been on proscar & minoxidil for 3 months now. posted a new pic near the top of page/thread.

Its very hard to get the lighting the same, its really annoying me! taken loads pics & the lighting still looks different.

my parting has definenatly filled in a lot, lots of thick black hairs around my hairline too it seems to have worked better on the hairline, on the other hand my hair feels like crap ,like it doesnt weigh anything & i've been sheding last couple of days.

my hair was also thin at the back (left side) before starting treatment feels like its filled in slightly but the right side of the back feels a lot thinner now than when i started.

I'm going to stick with the proscar & minoxidil
Just hoping i can maintain my hair intil HM comes out, which im hoping will be about 2010.

Is this the Ludwig type of hair loss? I can see a clear improvement just within three months. This looks good and i am very optimistic that you can maintain your hair until 2010, though I am rather sceptical about HM being out until then. In the long run it is our only chance!

yea the hairs around my hairline that were thin have thickened up a lot,i have new thiner hairs outside those hairs and peach fuzz outside them, im hoping they will continue to grow.

i dont know for sure if the results are down to proscar & minoxidil or just the minoxidil.

what norwood are you? I'd recommend anyone who has male pattern baldness and cares about their hair to start finasteride & minoxidil.

any side effects so far?

just watery semen since starting proscar & up to now, talked to my doctor at the same place i see my tricologist and he said finasteride would'nt effect the quality of it,so dont think i got anything to worry bout there.

thought i was having trouble getting erections in the first month but looking back i think it was all just in my head. never had any trouble with that since then.

no its not lol  thats female pattern baldness, as far as i know men dont get that type of hairloss, think i see what you mean tho because i have long hair and im thinning on the parting. i've been to see a tricologist who told me its male pattern baldness.

i'm very pleased with my results :) ,fingers crossed i can mantain my hair til HM comes out!
