Lies, damned lies, and statistics - Stopping Rogaine - THE Itch

I am stopping Rogaine after 3 months due to it destroying my scalp and making me bald 66% from front to back with only small pimple hairs left at the front.

"Why did you let it go on they ask"
"Well THEY say shedding is okay for the first 2-3 weeks; hey you've only been on it two months why give up now - when it's about to work?"
"errm okay - I'll order another can"
"good boy - that will be £20.00 thank you very much"
"fcuk - this stuff does not absorb and crackles off in 6-12 hours - it's itching like heck"

I have posted a thread about my problems in the "side effects". The lack of response compared to the
amazing response noticed when you post a thread asking whether it's a "good idea" to start on minoxidil and finasteride is quite interesting.

You get a response from multiple folk who sound like sales representatives which adds to the heightened suspicion that one must be careful who to take advice from when money is involved. In addition when crap hits the fan they are no where to be seen.

"oh well - he's bought three cans - let's move onto the next soul"

So your left bemused, frustrated and decide to research your self. You find the following:

The Itch of all Mothers:

"This product causes my scalp itch to a degree that I never knew was humanly possible. Literally it’s like the itch demon fairy princess from hell came and was digging into your scalp with an “itch-wandâ€￾ that has needles at its ends dabbed with poison. I kid you not. This doesn’t occur right when I put it on, but I’ll get itch attacks during the day. And when these attacks occur, dare you even touch one follicle of hair in the area where the Rogaine was applied, the painful scratchy sensation increases a thousand fold. In other words, it itches like crazy, but if you try to scratch it, you will see the gates of Hell looming before you, as it punishes you for even attempting to try to relieve some pressure off your head. Will I keep using it? I don’t know… I can honestly say my mental ability to stay laser focused has increased n-th fold as I am getting my daily practice during these itch-attacks."

And more importantly. This the below: If you are finding it hard to read my post please check out the below article. You must understand how minoxidil works and cannot work.

PAGE 3!!!

I will never forgive Rogaine for this because they should have made it clear on the website's Front Page if your experiencing itching, flaking + hairloss, then discontinue use with immediate effect . This is a medication for gods sake. I would have have stopped the product within 4-5 days of the itch and not let it go on and on where it has ripped the shreds out of the scalp and left me to the point where I have to shave off everything. I hope to God it grows back to how it was 3 months ago. I will now settle for that.

My Rant:

The great thing about finasteride is the side effects are widely spread in the forums and well documented when they are selling the product.

They believe in their products and have nothing to hide. I rather people bang on about side effects when it comes to medication so you know how deep you are going to be swimming.

But I am afraid this Rogaine/ Regaine bend their statistics to sell not a medication (from their point of view) but a commercialised product and I despise them for this.

My advice for people who fall for the:

9/10 success
5% experience itch

is as follows:

9/10 is fail (only possible when combined with finasteride) My figure would be 1/10 success. Any side effect what causes you stop is considered a fail.

add a 0 to the 5 to get = 50% chance you will experience a itch.

Act on it quick by discontinuing the Regaine/Rogaine foam until your scalp is fully cures. Do not carry on using it and and expecting Nizoral, emu oil, emu conditioners, head shoulders and god knows what else people put on their heads these days to sort it out whilst your still on the foam.

Then once your scalp is healed get on finasteride or try out foam again but in minute dosage.

I experienced an insane itch which was horrible for around 2 months on regaine. I would scratch my head like a retard alll day, because of the itch.

When i put regaine on in the morning it would burn really bad, however, i stuck with it and now it doesn't itch or burn at all.

Maybe you were allergic to something in the foam?

The reason people do not report side effects with rogaine/regaine is because most people do not experience side effects.

I hope you recover!

The above is a side effect. It is about how long it lasts. Thanks for the support. I have couple of questions for you please.
1)When you scratched like a retard, did anything flake off?
2)How long did it last & did it mysteriously go away?

Yes, I experienced a side effect, but I still believe that most don't. I actually also made af post about it, like you.

I would flake like crazy. White dust and flakes everywhere on tables and such.

It began around 1 month in and lasted for less than a month or so.

I remember sometimes waking up at night to scratch my head. Sometimes I would even wake up in the morning and be confused whether I had been scratching or it was a dream. It was so horrible.

But after ca those 2 months on regaine it suddenly stopped pretty much as my shedding stopped.

Now it doesn't itch, but I still have white residue on my scalp, but it does not end up everywhere, because I don't scratch anymore.

A good medication should not give you constant irritation. I just would like to know why my scalp would absorb the minoxidil for the first two months and decided not to absorb it after that?

It is as if my scalp is saying "hey no more, I'm full up"

I'm wondering whether it is time to just take Finasteride. At least there would be no itch.

I'm just waiting for the day my scalp feels normal. The happiness it can bring cannot be described with words. No hair or with hair.

You should've just looked up the ingredients to see what causes the itch.

If it has propylene glycol, that is it. I switched to a different formula without it and I've yet to have an issue.

If it doesn't, 'scuse this post

Wait...

So you are blaming minoxidil for your hair loss, yet you are not on finasteride? You have no way of knowing that minoxidil made you lose your hair. In 3 months time, male pattern baldness can advance greatly without a DHT inhibitor.

You know, it is people like you on this forum that spread bull**** not backed by any form of truth.

I have ordered Propecia and will be with me tomorrow.

Bull****? Everything I said is the truth. My advice is to be taken seriously. If you google you will find THE "itch" is everywhere and you must STOP the medication until the scalp is fully cured. If you accused me of lieing to my face when I have spoke the truth I would slap you.

I have just taken off 2-3 mm layer of minoxidil build up off my scalp. Read my post again. This 9/10 alone success is a scam.
This minoxidil has screwed my remaining hairs within 2 weeks of the dreaded itch.

"You have no way of knowing that minoxidil made you lose your hair" You are thick as ****. My hair was f-ing doing alright. Read all my posts you dum fool.

It has shredded my scalp to pieces. Anyway my scalp feels great with ALOT less hair (if you can call it that) after taking off the layers of build-up and using Nizoral. Propecia on the way. Wish me success friends and foes.

I use a non propylene glycol minoxidil formula with dht inhibiting ingredients, then I dissolved 6mg of melatonin in it as an anti-inflammatory.

Using it twice a day and no issues.

Used to use kirkland foam (propylene glycol) which gave me itch and rash.

I don't get this. I'm been advised to use non PG Minoxildil. I was using Regaine Foam. I thought that did not have PG in it?

I have been on Propecia for 2 months and I do not suffer from the itches.

I am dreading to start on minoxidil again.

I have this to report. No new hair growth but increased losing hair in the back. This seemed to have happened in the last week or so.

Side effects: Obviously the brain fog is pretty bad but I can live with it.

I had strong erections but have settled down now. :)

But I have one half problem. I am certain my scalp is more oily, especially at the front. Why is this?

I am washing my hair every 2 days. The first day during the morning and afternoon my scalp is dry but then in the evening if I touch it with my finger tips the light reflects what is oil.

Does this mean I have to wash my hair everyday. If the light shines on my head, at certain angles you can see the scalp is shining (reflecting oil)

Is the scalp supposed to be more or less clean of oil.

So I decided to use the Regain foam once more. Big mistake!

I applied a touch to the sever balded front part of the scalp to see what occurs. 6 hours later a severe f****** itch. Used nizoral and is still itching.

Is this can of regaine contaminated or is applying it to a balded area what's doing it?

I just do not understand. The 1st can (months supply) was okay and now I am very sensitive to a touch of minoxidil.

It's been two months since I stopped using minoxidil!!!

Well that's it for me with this ****ty product. I have to hope I recover from this infection and see what Propecia does on it's own.

p.s **** me these minoxidil itches are from another planet.

Simple, use a different brand of minoxidil. I like Spectral DNC, lots of added stuff to help it absorb/reduce side effects

maybe you're allergic to minoxidil or PG. Have you tried any other brands?

No. Only regaine foam.

Would kirklands foam be any different?

If Regaine foam doesn't have propylene glycol, Kirkland's foam might different in that it has PG in it (according to one poster in this thread).

I have a feeling that you might be allergic to the minoxidil compound itself which would suck. But, you never know unless you try a minoxidil product with a different formulation. Have you tried the liquid version? Maybe test it somewhere else on your body first like the back of your hand or something.

I have never tried the liquid version.

The finasteride & nizoral seem to be working as in the sense there is no scalp itch (not a single hair grown yet after 2 months 2 weeks). I just need to add minoxidil somehow without it itching INSTANTLY.

People say avoid the propylene glycol. So that means I have to avoid the liquid and the foam as the skin it too sensitive to minoxidil. lol

It feels as if the minoxidil starts working straight away circulating blood etc and as if it starts reproducing cells everywhere which causes a increasing in pressure where I applied it. The increase in pressure causing the itch, irritation, severe fungy scalp flakes.

It's a fight against destiny.
