I'm considering becomming a member of http://www.lef.org so I can enjoy the benefits of cheaper high quality supplements. Also, as a side note, the "lite" versions of Dr P's NANO and prox-n (not that I really use prox-n) can be obtained there. They're cheaper already than Dr P's, but with membership they'd be even cheaper.

Any Life Extension Foundation members out there? What's your experience of membership?

The Life Extension Mix looks like just about the best multivitamin out there, all the basic vitamins plus antioxidants, chromium, green tea, vit d3, etc...

http://www.lef.org/newshop/items/item00930.html

I was all set to buy, until I read that you need to take 14 capsules a day to get the daily levels they talk about! That's what... $60-100 a month depending on how much you order, whether you're a member etc.

Am I misunderstanding something?

is this in conjunction with those AM radio programs?

goddamn scam man, just by a multi at the drug store already

what the hell kind of vitamin company needs you to be a member? like hair club members? anything that is a scam always needs you to be a "member"

at that price it would be probably cheaper to go to a pharmacist or naturopath and have them compound it for you personally. plus far more convenient.

Yeah i thought it was scammish at first, but heard some good reviews from people I know. A very knowledgeable canadian friend of mine kept pushing it as the easiest/best thing you can take. But im not sure, a lot of the stuff could well be superfluous rubbish.

Though there's no way i'd do the big one, but they're standard 2x a day multivitamin looks quite good, and is cheap. I especially like the vit D3 part. Vitamin D is such an important vitamin, with an incredible range of benefits, but due to fear of toxicity doctors have been overly cautious about how much people can take. Vitamin D3 is the most potent form, and doesn't have the same toxicity problems i've read.

Bubka, the member thing is just for discounts.

I live in Canada and can get D3 at the drug store. I take a pill every morning and night.

I know what you are saying about these wonderful vitamins. I saw an infommercial last night about the 12in1 vitamin (which I've seen before) and it seems like it'd be a really cool thing to take, provided it has everything in it they say it does. Unfortunately I went to what I thoiught was the website today but it ended up being a porno site and spend the afternoon re-formatting my computer.

d is fat soluble, so you don't have to take it so often. and you can overdose if it builds up.

It has niacin in it though, and I'm prone to flushing and redness in my face. I got a bunch of IPL treatments to help the redness and flushing go away, I don't want to risk it coming back by taking niacin.

Maybe i'll try the Enzymatic vitamin. I want something with a ton of different stuff in it. Hopefully it will not only make me feel better but I'm thinking all the different chemicals will go into my skin and make it less translucent. I hate these dark circles under my eyes. Maybe every little bit will help in making them less noticable.

This one looks much better. It's a very potent multivitamin without all those other weird extracts, and is $8.35 a month - much better :)

"...compared to Centrum®, Life Extension Two-Per-Day Tablets provides about:

* 8 times more vitamin C
* 6 times more vitamin E
* 6 times more lycopene
* 20 times more lutein
* 10 times more biotin
* 37 times more vitamin B6
* 5 times more selenium
* 50 times more vitamin B1
* 50 times more vitamin B12
* At least twice as much folic acid, zinc, and many other nutrients"

Does that sound like too much of some stuff to anyone else? :p

Felk, why spend $100 per year on vitamins? You have to take two of those tablets per day, and so each bottle will last you 60 days. Let's keep it simple and say there are 360 days in a year instead of 365, so you'll go through 6 bottles a year. Even with the discount you get when buying 4 bottles at a time, that's still $100 per year not even including shipping which I assume is extra. Even if you are a member of Lef it's still almost $80 per year plus shipping.

I get a year's supply of generic Centrum for $15 at my local store. I know that this stuff gives you extra of everything but who needs that much?

Yeah it's basically $100 a year. But i didn't fully realise how cheap centrum is - the multi i've been taking is $20 AUD for two months supply, which is basically the same so I thought it was a pretty good deal.

The main reason is to do with getting enough vitamin D (in the form of D3, which is hard to overdose on) That multi has 800 IU of it. Most multis have about 100 UI of Vitamin D, not D3.

I've just been reading so much about how good this vitamin is for you - nearly all the cells in your body have receptors for it. Without going into too much detail, it seems very important to me specifically and i have some symptoms it would improve hopefully.

It just seemed simpler to get plenty of everything else at the same time, that's all.

It better have 8x as much stuff since it is 8x the price of generics. Mine lasts 6 months and is $6, and has a lot of stuff. It is generic centrum. Even 400% of b12. I wish it had enough of a few other things, but it is good enough for now. I'll buy a better one later.
