Hello all, since I now consider myself as a member of this board (as opposed to a general lurker) I thought it would be helpful for me and those reading to share my hairloss story using only unproven topicals. This is probrably going to be quite long as I have a tendancy to ramble!

I had a sense that my hair had started to thin back in 2001 but it never gave me any real cause for alarm at the time as I still had lots of it and thought that perhaps all i needed to do was buy some Nioxin which I did and it made no difference to the state of my hair so I dropped it after 6 months of use.

I didnt understand anything about the process of hairloss and certainly hadnt heard of HairLossTalk.com. So I carried on in my life until the latter half of 2004. for the two years previous I had been so caught up in relationships, work etc that I didnt notice what had been happening - having more spare time on my hands made me notice that my situation had worsened considerably and was even "fortunate" enough to get one of those "dude your going bald" comments from a work collegue.

So I panicked and bought a pack of Kirkland minoxidil off ebay which still sits in the back of my cupboard unused. Then after googling hairloss I found this site and read all about the wonders of DHT and the hairloss process. I was convinced I was going to jump on finasteride and fight this biatch to the death. But something about having a drug in my system bothered me (as well as alot of forum comments about gyno etc) - so I read up some more and decided to go the topicals route.

Revivogen (DHT inhibition)
CU peptides (Regrowth)
nizoral 2%

I started the regimen and felt that I was getting good results in the first instance - less hair falling out in the shower being the main indicator and I even thought my hair was thickening up a bit too. I took pics at the start (which I lost due to my camera phone f****cking up) So I only have pics from 6 months into my regimen to present day.

It was on my 28th birthday I just had this feeling that rev and cu peps were not enough to combat the situation - even though I thought I was maintainig I felt the need to bolster my regimen - so I added spironolactone 5% , nano and proxiphen-n to the mix. I felt a bit of a traitor to the cause as I really wanted to prove once and for all if this revivogen stuff was up to the job but my fear of losing ground won me over.

So now Im 10 months in, nano and proxiphen have come and gone and I now have a relatively slimmed down regimen of rev, spironolactone and tricomin.

Am I happy right now with hairloss? Yes and no

To be honest the reason I wrote this is because I am confused about where I stand with rev and spironolactone - its been a solid 10 months on rev and 5 months on spironolactone and I dont know if its really maintaining my hair or if Im just losing at a slow rate as I was before - furthermore the right side of my vertex seems thinner then it was last year from normal pictures and this worrys me.

The positives are I DO see vellus hairs emerging at the hairline some of these are growing longer and getting more pigmented

Norwood wise I would say Im a 2 - basically I have diffuse thinning at the crown and vertex and slight reccession in the temples.

I have vowed to myself that at the first sign of a visible bald spot I will say to hell with it and "jump on finasteride" even though stuff like gyno scares the SH1T out of me since I at least want my body to look good even if the top of my head doesnt.

I find I spend alot of my time thinking about hairloss more then ever before and am (probrably foolishly) putting alot of hope in some of the new treatments (from Curis etc) come along in the next 2-3 years and saving the day - Im sure people who joined this site 6 years ago had the same thought.

If the treatments Im on really do stop the clock and I stay as I am I will be satisfied - not overjoyed but definetly grateful for it - but as I said im not sure - I have 4 months of rev serum left which I intend to use and will keep up with the spironolactone too - once that 4 month supply comes to an end I will be a 14 month user of rev (more then most who have tried and failed on these boards it seems) so I feel I will be in a position to credibly evaluate what it has (or has not) acheived for me and I will be doing so via this thread. To anyone who has actually read this far into my post - best of luck with your regimens and feel free to ask any questions.

I get the feeling that you like being "exotic", slaloming away from those two treatments that could help you most.

If you could get maintenance with your current regimen you should be happy.

Why aren't you using minoxidil? What do you have to lose?

Are you aware that gyno is highly improbable and if it does occur, it is so gradual a process that you could instantly quit finasteride and avoid it if you keep an eye for it?

Thank you for posting your story in detail and best of luck to you too.

its not so much that I *like* being exotic as much as Im trying to find something I can really stick to without worrying about whats its doing to my insides. I think about jumping on finasteride all the time but here is what concerns me in this order of importance

1) The whole thing about finasteride and pregnancy - how sure are we it wont affect any kids I want to have in the future - Ive read the stuff about Merck taking the warning away etc but do we really have enough long term (10+ years) of people using propecia and concieving children to know for sure it wouldnt do any harm?

2) Gyno

3) I read some research about finasteride (although it was 5mg daily) encouraging more aggressive forms of cancers against a placebo whilst at the same time reducing the risk of prostate cancer.

4) Sexual sides

It would make alot of sense in alot of way simply because as time goes on I am finding the whole nightly revivogen application a bit of a pain - its ok at the moment as my social life is currently pretty crap to be honest - but when I wasnt single for a while and had a girl staying around my place regularly I missed 4 applications in a row - that stuff is greasy forget sexual sides thats a passion killer in itself! so I can imagine it will be much more of a pain to stick too - popping a propecia pill would be far simpler

I guess Im using this thread to talk out my own fears and thoughts on how I go about tackling male pattern baldness in the long term.

Why didnt I add minoxidil - hmmm good question I have been considering it but again have resisted due to the negative feedback on boards plus the thought of adding another topical to my current regimen isnt something I want to even think about let alone figure out the logistics of doing it.

Here are some pics of me

It looks good, although the lighting of these pics renders them useless for progress tracking.

Is your hairline ok?

(I am not going to comment on the likelihood of propecia sides, it has been extensively done on this forum and I acknowledge it is your stand not to go that route).

minoxidil could give you what you need for now with no risks. If your regimen offers you effective inhibition then the results could outlast you.

Your hair looks way better esp. from 7 to month 10. Yeah it maybe the lighting and the angle the shot is taken but it must of improved some what. I think it looks better and good luck to you.

Bit of a MAJOR update to my story - I finally did it - Ive jumped on propecia! - yep after 11 months on Revivogen I have decided its time for the big guns even though I had 3 months supply left - dont get me wrong I have nothing against rev and if I don't adjust well to finasteride then I would consider returning to it. I am still going to use my spironolactone 5% (hairline, temples and crown) and my tricomin.

My first 3 months supply of propecia arrives tommorow - im feeling pretty relaxed about the whole thing and have put alot of my fears to rest.

And so the journey continues......
