Hello all, since I now consider myself as a member of this board (as opposed to a general lurker) I thought it would be helpful for me and those reading to share my hairloss story using only unproven topicals. This is probrably going to be quite long as I have a tendancy to ramble!
I had a sense that my hair had started to thin back in 2001 but it never gave me any real cause for alarm at the time as I still had lots of it and thought that perhaps all i needed to do was buy some Nioxin which I did and it made no difference to the state of my hair so I dropped it after 6 months of use.
I didnt understand anything about the process of hairloss and certainly hadnt heard of HairLossTalk.com. So I carried on in my life until the latter half of 2004. for the two years previous I had been so caught up in relationships, work etc that I didnt notice what had been happening - having more spare time on my hands made me notice that my situation had worsened considerably and was even "fortunate" enough to get one of those "dude your going bald" comments from a work collegue.
So I panicked and bought a pack of Kirkland minoxidil off ebay which still sits in the back of my cupboard unused. Then after googling hairloss I found this site and read all about the wonders of DHT and the hairloss process. I was convinced I was going to jump on finasteride and fight this biatch to the death. But something about having a drug in my system bothered me (as well as alot of forum comments about gyno etc) - so I read up some more and decided to go the topicals route.
Revivogen (DHT inhibition)
CU peptides (Regrowth)
nizoral 2%
I started the regimen and felt that I was getting good results in the first instance - less hair falling out in the shower being the main indicator and I even thought my hair was thickening up a bit too. I took pics at the start (which I lost due to my camera phone f****cking up) So I only have pics from 6 months into my regimen to present day.
It was on my 28th birthday I just had this feeling that rev and cu peps were not enough to combat the situation - even though I thought I was maintainig I felt the need to bolster my regimen - so I added spironolactone 5% , nano and proxiphen-n to the mix. I felt a bit of a traitor to the cause as I really wanted to prove once and for all if this revivogen stuff was up to the job but my fear of losing ground won me over.
So now Im 10 months in, nano and proxiphen have come and gone and I now have a relatively slimmed down regimen of rev, spironolactone and tricomin.
Am I happy right now with hairloss? Yes and no
To be honest the reason I wrote this is because I am confused about where I stand with rev and spironolactone - its been a solid 10 months on rev and 5 months on spironolactone and I dont know if its really maintaining my hair or if Im just losing at a slow rate as I was before - furthermore the right side of my vertex seems thinner then it was last year from normal pictures and this worrys me.
The positives are I DO see vellus hairs emerging at the hairline some of these are growing longer and getting more pigmented
Norwood wise I would say Im a 2 - basically I have diffuse thinning at the crown and vertex and slight reccession in the temples.
I have vowed to myself that at the first sign of a visible bald spot I will say to hell with it and "jump on finasteride" even though stuff like gyno scares the SH1T out of me since I at least want my body to look good even if the top of my head doesnt.
I find I spend alot of my time thinking about hairloss more then ever before and am (probrably foolishly) putting alot of hope in some of the new treatments (from Curis etc) come along in the next 2-3 years and saving the day - Im sure people who joined this site 6 years ago had the same thought.
If the treatments Im on really do stop the clock and I stay as I am I will be satisfied - not overjoyed but definetly grateful for it - but as I said im not sure - I have 4 months of rev serum left which I intend to use and will keep up with the spironolactone too - once that 4 month supply comes to an end I will be a 14 month user of rev (more then most who have tried and failed on these boards it seems) so I feel I will be in a position to credibly evaluate what it has (or has not) acheived for me and I will be doing so via this thread. To anyone who has actually read this far into my post - best of luck with your regimens and feel free to ask any questions.
