Long Term Effects of Propecia

I've been diffuse thinning for about 4 years now, and I decided I couldn't take it anymore. I started using Rogaine (3 weeks ago), and I had an appointment with my dermatologist today. After getting all excited about starting a Propecia regimine, he told me he wouldn't write a prescription.

I asked him why not. He said there are no long term studies available on the effects of Propecia on the prostate. He understands giving the drug to a 70 year old man with an enlarged prostate, but not to a 25 year old male.

I told him I did plenty of research and was willing to take a risk. He told me no. He said I should try the Rogaine for a year and if I'm still thinning afterwards, then come talk to him.

I left bummed, but curious. Are there any long-term side effects from taking Propecia? Should I go to my family doctor and get a prescription from him?

People have been taking Propecia for 10 years easy.

Some never experience any negative side effects.

Some experience negative side effects initially - but then they lessen or go away entirely.

Some experience negative sides 3 - 5 years into treatment for the first time.

You'll never know how it affects you until you try it out.

You can buy it on-line at several reputable pharmacies without a prescription. Screw your doctor if he can't take a joke.

you should have told him that propecia isn't for 70 year old men with prostate problems; it's for 25 year old men with hair loss.

i'd have asked for my money back. go somewhere else. my dermo practically shoved the stuff down my throat.

as for long-term effects, i figure that people have been taking it long enough before me that if they start growing an arm out of their ear, I can still stop before any long-term effects hit me...hopefully. if not, at least i'll have an arm growing out of a big head of hair.

If you want to use finasteride, you can buy it online from a number of sources.

I'm also thinking about trying propecia. But to be honest, after reading the many horror stories on this board, it has made be apprehensive in trying it. Nevertheless, one place that I found that you can acquire it from is http://www.unitedpharmacies.com/

Take those horror stories with a very large grain of salt. A few are real, many are due to quite overactive imaginations.

i tend to agree with you. i was using finasteride for 6 years without any problems...easily aroused, hard erections, an enjoyable sex life...then i got onto forums such as this and i started to worry. coincidently, my sex life has been shocking since. i have the thought of these forums in the back of my head now with every sexual encounter and ofcourse, the anxiety is counterproductive to boners!! it has to be psychological.

so i've been off the sh*t for 3 months now, losing hair, and still not performing in the sack because i read idiot posts such as "been off finasteride for 6 months and still no erections". so what do you think i'm thinking about before i try to give the bird a decent root? once again, counterproductive!!!

every person taking finasteride doesn't post on hair loss forums. i didn't until i started having problems and now i'm certain my problems are due to the forums themselves and not the drug.

i'm sure many others who suddenly experience so-called 'sides' can agree.

so thanks to the young punks who've put the fear of death (literally) into my dick. not only am i losing the birds, i'm now also losing my hair again!

1 year on Propecia and over two years on Proscar, minoxidil, Xandrox, folligen, MSM, Azelaic acic, Ketoconazole and various other shampoos/medications.

Side effects = hair growth, itchy scalp during the first two or three months that went away when I used T/Sal shampoo.....er....er....that's it.
