I have been using propecia for 8 years now. I started losing my hair when I was 18 and started on propecia a year later. Now at 27, I still have most of my hair but am thinning pretty good in the in the back and some up front. However, I would say that it has drastically changed my life in terms of self esteem being that I started losing my hair at such a young age. It has helped me grow more hair and kept me from losing all of it.
I have noticed in the past few months that I have been losing more hair and it is getting me very worried. I don't know if it can be related to perhaps long term inneficiancy or if the propecia I am using is no good. I purchase the propecia online and have had some concern whether or not it is really from Merck or not.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do to help me from losing the rest of the hair I have? I started using Rogaine extra strength but have been experiencing some irritation. In addition, I have also started taking saw palmetto.
Thanks for any help.

Consider switching to Avodart (dutasteride).

If you have irritation from the Rogaine, use Nizoral 2-3 times per week.
Make sure you use a conditioner.

I echo what tainted meat said

Get a prescription from avodart from your Doctor at a local pharmacy,

or

buy avodart or a generic version like dutas at one of these online pharmacies which are supposed to be very reputable:

http://www.unitedpharmacies.com

http://www.inhousepharmacy.com

You can take one tablet a day for the first two weeks to get to a steady state I guess, then cut back to three times a week if you want(like every Monday Weds Fri), cause thats almost nearly as effective as every day and much cheaper.

templemonk- I haven't noticed any side effects associated with taking propecia for that long. Of course, I haven't had any blood work done by a doctor to tell me otherwise. So far, things have all worked out really well until most recently where I feel that shedding on the vertex and front has increased. On the Norwood scale, tough to say exactly because no full loss just somewhat significant thinning on the vertex. The closest I can compare it to would be inbetween 3v and 4.

Thanks for the other replies guys. One thing I am concerned about is switching from propecia to avodart and loosing any results I have gained with propecia. I am also concerned that avodart will take even more time to work resulting in even more hair loss. Has this been the experience with anyone? Thanks.

Avodart is more powerful, and will continue to do what Propecia has done, only it will probably work better.

Use item #500 from this website. http://www.minoxidil.com/

It has limited PPG which makes it dry in 10 minutes and has far less irritation. I couldn't use standard minoxidil due to irritation. Send me a PM if you have a hard time ordering. The website is stuck in the 90's and is difficult to navigate.
