Looks like Nizoral really works when used properly

I've been on finasteride for the past 4 years or so as well as Nizoral. I mainly jumped on finasteride to prevent further loss, I was about an Norwood 2.5 when I was 22. I wasn't really getting regrowth, nor was i looking for any. For the most part I was maintaining and I was happy with that. However, when I used Nizoral I usually only left it on my hair for only 2 minutes.

About 3 months ago I started leaving Nizroal in my hair for almost the entire duration I was in the shower (approximately 10 minutes). About a month into that little experiment I noticed a pretty big shed, something that I never had before.

All of the sudden about 3 weeks ago I started noticing small hairs on my hairline that weren't there, and now they are much longer and fuller and I'm seeing more and more dark hairs popping up on the hairline. It's really quite surprising, in a good way of course. There is really nothing else I can attribute this sudden growth to besides leaving the shampoo in the hair for longer period of time. I did not introduce minoxidil into my regimen or anything else like that.

I will note that I changed my diet significantly since I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 2 months ago. I mainly stopped eating foods with high sodium content, fats, and for the most part changed to a vegetarian diet with a lot of fish products. So maybe that might have some kind of an effect, but I doubt it. I also started exercising more (mainly running and biking).

I will update this thread in a few weeks and let you know how things are going.

How long do you guys usually leave Nizoral in your hair?

Interesting. I've had a similar thing just at the front of my hairline, when I started nizoral it fried it out a little, but now it's looking a little thicker and more level, nothing drastic mind. I leave it on 5-10 mins, might try leaving it on a little longer and see if I can get some results all over.

I'd rather not start using nizoral without some real scientific data backing up the claim around these boards. I seem to be maintaining with finasteride only, and if I started with nizoral, and lost a lot, never to regain it, I'd never forgive myself.

What nizoral are you using. I've tried to get people in the Rogaine forums to discuss the 1% because it's been discontinued in the UK, and asking what they use instead, but being their usual helfpul selves, nobody bothered to answer me. I didn't get on with 2% at all, but the 1% I really liked. Is there anyone on the planet in the UK who uses 1% or have I been ignored because everyone in the UK uses the 2% sheddder?

You can get the 1% from Boots - http://www.boots.com/en/Nizoral-Dandruf ... -ml_11359/

It's not actually called 'Nizoral 1%' but I'm pretty sure it's the same thing!

I'm using the 1% formula. Which is also becoming hard to come by. But apparently there's been some manufacturing issues so hopefully it will return back to normal supply soon.

I really doubt there's any real benefit for keeping it on your hair for that long. Never heard of anybody do that before.

If you're happy with the results you're currently getting then there's no reason to use anything else. I was happy with my results as well and I primarily used it because it really thickened up my existing hair or at least gave the effect that it was much thicker. But after reading hairloss forums for about 5 years I've never seen anybody complain that they lost more hair due to Nizoral use.

I used Nizoral on it's own for a few months, hoping that it would thickening up my left temple, about one month using it my temple shed even worse to point were I looked in the mirror and gasped, almost brought to tears, cursing myself out for even using nizoral, BUT then I looked around the certain forums and heard some people had a shed whilst using it so instead of applying every second day I cut down to 3-4 days and persevered and IMO it has helped, it has slightly improved my left temple.

I'd higly recommend it, every 3 days or so, leave on for 5 to 8 mins, while gently rubbing your scalp.

That's what I do.

:)

That link is for the 2%. (Contains Ketoconazole 20mg/g.)

Are you thinking of NizorELLE which is 1% but discontinued. I've tried EVERYWHERE for it and it's unlisted now and the manufacturer told me nobody bought it so they stopped it.

Finished here in the UK now, Manufacturing problems with 2% yes, but available, but the 1% doesn't exist anymore.

Seems like a lot of conflicting information.

In one of Amazon reviews (http://www.amazon.com/review/R2KI25KP4H ... &linkCode=)

a guy called Johnson and Johnson regarding the 1% and asked about the shortage and he was informed that it was due to a manufacturing issue and not the discontinuation of the product.

His last update was from September 26 and they told him at that time that they were still having issues.

These news article seem to support what he is saying

http://www.pharmalot.com/2011/07/jj-a-m ... shortages/

Anyway, I'm still able to find in local stores from time to time but it sells out within a few days of shipment. I ordered a bottle online 2 days ago at CVS pharmacy but it looks like now they're also out of stock online.

I have a hard time believing it didn't sell well because it seemed to sell out pretty quickly even when there was no shortage.

Johnson & Johnson, the firm that make it in the UK told me 1% is discontinued.
It was called Nizorelle though. Nizoral was only ever 2% here I believe. I think the Nizoral shortage is something unrelated to the UK, because it's readily available everywhere I go, and EVERY assistant I ask for Nizorelle brings out the Nizoral which is only a 2% Keto bottle. Strangely most have never heard of Nizorelle, even in the places where I always bought it from. How quickly they forget...
nizorelle.jpg

They said it was stopped because sales were so poor, which is a shame because I preferred 1%. That Nizoral was not available in 1% in the UK I'm sure.

Okay so how do you know the nizoral is responsible for all of that and not the much more powerful and proven propecia you were also taking at the same time?
