will propecia loses its effect in the long term use? after reading the forums on propecia, i noticed quite a few people who have on propecia for at least 5 years, experience propecia losing its effect.

is side effect will normally be seen after a few years of use?

some people have been on the drug and had no change for almost 15 years, now mercks on study does show a slight progression back to the baseline after a few years

so yeah, it is possible you would only get to keep what you regrew for maybe 7 years, even still, you are slowing down would you would have lost anyways, or not have even regrown

thanks for the answer bubka. well, i should say after using propecia for maybe about 3 weeks, number of hair fall had dropped drastically. Now when i run my hand on my head, no hair come out. think propecia is working for me afterall. but im jus scared that after gaining all them back and only to lose it again after a few years...and currently im losing more of the tiny hair after starting propecia.

hopefully thats a good sign.

that may be a 'weee' early to experience results but keep the faith and ride out the 'roller coaster' that you'll experience when starting treatments as you most surely will discover.

Propecia's relative effectiveness increases over time. The 5-year study showed a growing gap between the treatment group and the placebo group over the duration of the research. As for how long Propecia can keep you above baseline... no-one knows. The longest study lasted 5 years. Comment on longer term effectiveness is pure speculation.

Guys, all these statitistics are useless. Everybody reacts different to Propecia. For some people like me with our agressive hairloss it only slows it down a bit, for others it may work for the rest of their lives. You have to find out where you belong.

i think its pretty safe to assume if finasteride works for you in the first year of use and your young and your hair loss isn't to aggressive i can see one staying close to baseline till about 10 years along with nizoral 2 times a week. the thing people dont realize if you are a responder even if it takes you below basleine after 10 years doesnt mean the drug is gona stop working, its still going to slow hairloss down and there is still benefits to the drug. but i see no point in someone going below baseline in one year to keep paying money for finasteride. another thing with duastride people assume that it will hold hairs even longer then finasteride but we really cant prove that yet. for all we know dutasteride might work amazing for 2 years but do to its powefull dht blocking and increasing test to much could backfire, time shall soon see as im sure there are a few people closing in on 5 years of dutasteride. for long term only thing we can really go by is that in 5 years 90 percent of propecia users will look better or remain the same.

here is a good example of some1 who was young and at 10 years on propecia. http://www.baldingblog.com/2006/09/ as you can see his hair on the crown is still much better then it was 10 years ago. will all people get these results prob not but it at least shows how long it can hold it off.

no we just don't know if i had to take a guess id say dutasteride could hold u above baseline twice as long as finasteride but we simple don't know. and no one can tell you otherwise because we simple cant see into the future.what scares me about dutasteride is i wanna find out with all the test increase whats the long term effect of it on the scalp.

also what a lot of people don't take into consideration and to me its a big factor is the 17 percent of people that dont respond to propecia in that graph are still being calculated into the 5 years. so i think if you just had the chart with all responders for 5 years and hair counts without the 17 percent non responders dragin it down could look alot different and we wouldn't see the hair counts start to dip after 2 years as we see in the chart.

just to add on a little bit, I've read some other post in other section. So I wanna know whether if I quit minoxidil (if I used it for only like 2mths), will propecia be able to bring those back? look forward to your answer guys...
