So minoxidil foam will not make any effect on my frontal area /hairline ?...

Lorans, I think he means that you haven't yet lost much of your frontal hair. You could use minoxidil and it may help improve your hairline, but this will not combat the cause of hair loss. If I were you, I would start with Propecia (Finasteride) and give it at least a year to see its effect on your hairline. This would likely also be the cheapest way for you to combat your loss.

To be more clear - of course you can add minoxidil to your regimen as it promotes re-growth of hair, but your best chance of keeping the hair you have now and avoiding future loss would be to use a 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor, such as Propecia/Finasteride, Dutasteride, etc. You can find a wealth of information on these drugs within this website.

There are people who say that saw palmetto has worked for them, but I am skeptical. To my knowledge, there aren't many scientific studies that have shown the effects of saw palmetto on hair loss. Some have been done, but usually have a very small sample size (less than 20) and have some other confounding factors such as being used with other treatments. So, the "benefits" of saw palmetto seem to be largely anecdotal. Personally, I wouldn't want to risk losing more hair that I may never get back on an herbal supplement that has not been very well tested. I think the most realistic possibility is that if saw palmetto were truly effective for hair loss, it would be more widely used in the place of AR inhibitors.

Anyway, good luck with your regimen!

2 months? No..it is a life time commitment if you want to hold onto what you have now. 0.5mg or 1mg a day. Won't comment on sides. Good luck.

Lorans, I would always advise anyone who is considering propecia/finasteride to see a doctor who is familiar with hair loss medication or a hair loss specialist. If you are worried about side effects, a doctor would be a good source of information and can even measure the drug's effects through blood work.

Most doctors would probably advise you to take finasteride for AT LEAST 6 months-a year to determine whether the drug is helping you. Some guys don't see results until well over a year of taking it. Every person will respond differently. If you want my opinion, I think you should at least try it for a year. If, during that time, you experience any side effects then just discontinue use. Clinical trials have shown that side effects are rare and almost never persistent after discontinuing use or even continuing use. You definitely need to give it longer than 2 months if you want to stand any chance of seeing visible results. And as talmoode said, you have to keep taking finasteride if you want to continue to see benefits. If you stop using at some point, you will continue to lose hair.

I can tell you that I have been on finasteride for a year now and I have never experienced any noticeable side effects.
