hello:)

i am 21 years old, and i've been suddenly losing an abnormal amount of hair for almost about two months now. i've tried everything i could think of to stop it, but it still continues. i've got a blood test - no iron deficiency, i've seen the family doctor - no thyroid problem, i've boosted up on my iron and zinc intake, and still i am losing lots of hair. it may be some form of alopecia, but i am not sure which one. i went to see the dermatologist in late november, but all he said was, "come and see me in january". he didn't prescribe me any drugs. hearing about scalp treatment, i am desperate enough to go for it, but i am a student - i just can't spend that much money. should i try rogaine? does rogaine for men work for women? what about propecia? will these, or any treatment you know of work almost or just as well as scalp treatment to stabilize the hair loss and help me grow back the hair i've lost?

thankyou for your time! :)

The bloodwork for women's hair loss is more elaborate than just an iron and thyroid one. You should find out about having a complete hormonal panel done with this list as your guide (scroll down the page):

Yes Minoxidil / Rogaine is helpful for both men and women. Propecia is not indicated for women's hair loss as it is not considered safe for use in pre menopausal women. Please read our women's hair loss guide when you get a chance to familiarize yourself:

We're here and will continue to be here to help you out where we can. Please keep us posted as things develop!
