Losing short hairs- good or bad?

Hey

Just wondering about that issue. I've got pretty long hair, and when I take showers I'm beginning to examine the hairs that I lose. Anyway, sometimes I lose lots of long hairs, and sometimes I don't lose so many of them. But I ALWAYS lose quite a few short, thin hairs.

In all probability, is this a good thing or a bad thing?

My regimen consists of Neutrogena shampoo (T-Sal) 2x week, Nizoral 2x week, and 2% minoxidil 2x day. No propecia. I'm just wondering if there's any way to tell whether the hairs I'm losing are a good thing or a bad thing.

I've read lots of stories about people complaining about losing short hairs, but also seen lots of people get excited over the same thing. I'm not sure whether I should be positive, negative or neutral on this issue.

Also, in (what I believe is) a related issue, my long hair has become increasingly difficult to style. I think I've grown some back, but there seem to be so many thin hairs that are almost impossible to control (short and long). I'm wondering whether THIS would suggest a good thing or a bad thing in addition to the above question about my "short hair loss". I mean, are my follicles less healthy NOW, or have previously "dead" follicles gradually started to resurrect themselves, thus leading to the strange thin hairs all over my head?

I know people are going to chime in with the "it's different for everyone" idea, but I'm just looking for a general response. I understand there are exceptions- I'm just wondering if there is a general RULE to which those "exceptions" would apply.

So...

Your thoughts?

(Thanks)

Well I suppose they're either the result of the miniaturization of follicles that occurs with male pattern baldness (resulting in weaker hairs) or, if your treatment is working, they're hairs grown by your new, healthy, follicles that'll be replaced, in a gradual process, by slightly longer, darker and thicker ones until they're full size.

Now as you feel that you've regrown some hair hopefully it's the latter of these that applies to you but only you can judge that by monitoring your hair's overall quality.

Any particular reason for not taking Finasteride?
