I have a background in science, and thought I'd look into whether LLLT is effective, according to science literature. I also searched previous discussions here, and reviews for LLLT products on Amazon.

Previous discussions here seemed weird. two dudes claiming opposite views and demanding "sources" from each other, while adding insults. That thread went on forever, with no one willing to budge.

The reviews on Amazon seem very divided: about half very positive, and the other half very negative.

However, formal studies that I saw tend to claim that LLLT is effective for male pattern hair loss.

For example, this one
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3944668/

summarizes several studies, and it seems that the results are overwhelmingly positive. The authors are Harvard and MIT-affiliated.

I haven't seen any long-term studies though. Perhaps LLLT is only effective in the short term, like Monoxidil (That only works for a couple of years, on average, according to another study)

I wonder about the disparity between the studies and the reviews on Amazon and the popular opinion here. Is it possible that people who buy LLLT products have already tried everything else and failed (selection bias)?
