Hi guys.

So I decided to take the plunge and jump on finasteride. I was pretty nervous but considering I'm a fairly active, slim 20 year old male I thought I may as well give it a bash as my hair is slowly thinning. The day after taking the first pill I noticed a slight pain in my chest and nut ache. The whole gyno thing freaked me out at this point so I decided to take it every second day instead. Over the course of the next week the pain in my chest got worse. One day I had irritated nipples, but it only lasted a few hours. But I did have a constant ache in my chest that got really uncomfortable at points. My plan was to ride it out for two weeks, and if the pain didn't begin to improve I'd discontinue the medication, because there's no way in hell you can develop gyno in two weeks, right?

Well two days ago I woke up and noticed the pain was gone. I was absolutely delighted. So I took another pill that night. And again I woke up yesterday with no pain, only I noticed some strange lumps around the outside of my nipple and up towards my armpit, as well as in my armpit slightly. I have no idea what these lumps are or if they were there before, and I also have no idea why they don't hurt at all and I don't have lumps under my nipples.

So basically my question is, what the **** do I do now? I have an appointment for the doctor tomorrow. I have been emailing the doctor who prescribed me the finasteride and he claims that everyone has lumpiness in those areas and there's no way gyno could have formed in less than two weeks. Does anyone have any experience with these kind of sides? I really really don't want to have to stop taking finasteride but it looks like I dont have much choice.

The sensations you experienced certainly sound like the beginning of gyno. Wouldn't worry about it too much if the pain has subsided though, was perhaps your HPTA going a bit squiffy in response to starting finasteride. I would get your hormones checked (Test, Estradiol, SHBG mainly).

Do you think I should discontinue use? The fact that the pain is gone is reassuring to a degree but I have lumpiness around the pec area on each side, even some lumps in the armpit area

I'd stick with it, monitor the lumps but it should be okay if the pain has stopped. You should get your hormones checked though.

My EOD dose is due tonight so I'll probably take that and then see what the doctor says tomorrow... What do you think the pain going away could signify? I'm a slight bit reluctant to continue taking finasteride as I've heard that gyno becomes irreversible at a certain point

I'm not an expert but the pain going away would probably signify it's stopped proliferating. Gyno isn't irreversible. Early stage gyno can be reduced with SERMs and late stage gyno can be removed with surgery. Depends how much you wanna keep your hair I guess.
