Major Flaking with Minoxidil

I have been using Minoxidil 5% for almost 3 weeks now. In the last week I've been having really severe flaking. The skin from my entire crown is literally peeling off. I have dead skin (sometimes yellowish) the size of snowflakes on my hair.

I ordered Nizoral and have used it once so far, without much apparent effect yet. And I've noticed that more hair is falling off when I comb it after the Nizoral use... although that could be paranoia or faulty memory of how much hair I lost before from combing.

Has anyone experienced flaking as bad as what I have? What other alternative shampoos other than Nizoral is there?

thanks

yeah. Experiencied the same, some weeks after i started liquid. The flaking will reduce with time. I lived with that, regrowth came after, so.. Keep on minoxidil and nizoral.

the nizoral will start working soon. i originally started using it for that same reason (alot of the flakes are dried minoxidil so keep that in mind) ...it eventually made the dryness and itching go away and kept the flakes at a minimum so they were easy to conceal. i went off it for a while, just out of laziness to go buy more, and all the dryness, itching, and flaking came back. when i finally got more i used it every day for about two weeks and it fixed me up. now i'm back to recommended dosage.

i had the same flaking but i didn't know why. i initially thought it was just the toppik i was using and it didn't have enough hair to grip onto anymore and it came off in flake form, or something like that. that was just after i had started using minoxidil and Propecia together (i had been using nizoral for a few years already).

well, i've been on the same regimen for sixth months now and no flaking. it makes sense i guess that hair flaking is like part of the shedding that occurs initially, making room for new hair to grow in. i had never thought about it like that but there's probably some truth to it. either way, don't worry. if you stick to it, the flaking's totally temporary.
