Hi Guys I am a male 29 years.
Struggling with hair loss since the age of 21 years. But till now was tackling it with home remedies and yogas etc .

In 2010 i was introduced to minoxidil and finasteride but have never tried it till now as was always afraid of the side effects though my dermatologist always told me that the finding is in a controlled environment and only 2 percent suffered from side effects. But I never got the confidence

But for the last 2 months shedding has increased exponentially so from yesterday I have started the regime .

20140510_085544.jpg20140510_085546.jpg20140510_085803.jpg20140510_085819.jpg20140510_085829.jpg20140510_085839.jpg
attaching the pics.

I have had my hair cut today itself and these pics are of short hair hence the baldness is prompty showing but with long hairs it was very difficult to apply Tugain hence took the decision

P.S> in the pics pis with flashlight is showing me more bald :)

My Regime

Finasteride : 1 mg in the morning empty stomach ( I have read somewhere that it reduces the sides if taken empty stomach in the morning

around 11 am Tugain Foam

3 pm around washing my head with water only

around 9 PM applying it again and keeping it over night .

Xgain Shampoo . twice a week

Till now no sides as such .. it has been two days .. while applying may b more 20-30 sec feels a bit heat in my scalp and then its gone.

Will update this thread periodically to show my progress.

My Doctor said for hair transplant its too early and atleast there are 2 years and may the mioxidil can stop your hairfall

Question:

is foam better than liquid?

Is spray better than foam ?
Because this time he has said you can even use spray.. In India spray is cheaper than foam. Foam is the most costliest but presently I can afford the foam for considerable time .

ANy advises or suggestion is welcome :)

Off the wall question but how did you find a dermatologist for this? Everyone I've looked up on the web at least never states anything of hair loss, unless they do hair transplants and it's procedures only... Just curious how to find an expert and get advice

Hi Brad. It was by coincidence that I have some skin issues and I went to him, one of the most famous skin specialist of my city. But he is a hair expert also and also does hair transplant but to his honesty he has till now never encouraged me for hair transplant. So in these last 4 years he always persuaded me to for this whenever I went to him for my other issues but I was not convinced that's why we had 2-3 talks about side effect and all. This time I am taking a plunge.
I am not sure about USA, but in India you can get an advice easily depending upon the doctor

Good to hear you are using proven methods of treatment. As far as your minoxidil questions. I have used both the foam and the liquid. I personally think I get better coverage with the liquid, but the foam dries quicker. The effectiveness should be the same.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah Foam dries early and for me that;s a good thing :) Any comparison for spray vs foam? And any idea after how many days, sides come into play. Thanks

Experiences quite often vary from individual to individual. So it's pretty much educated guess work again when it comes to your valid question about when can you expect sides to take effect. For me I liked that the foam did not cause as much dryness or residual build up like the liquid form did for me. It was more expensive , but there seems to always be a trade off when it comes to our attempts at finding better solutions to meet our unique preferences. To your last question about sides; I think it's reasonable to expect you'll start to experience shedding anywhere between 2-4 months out from initial application date. Again, this is another area of the experience where the outcome varies because it is not exact science, and I can guarantee you that several other users will have their own different and truthful perspectives to share. All the best.

The shedding you are talking about is the shedding of weak hair and they will come back?

You are more than welcome. Yes I am referring to the minoxidil./finasteride. related shedding. Try to look at it from this angle if you can. It's accurate to presume that these weaker hairs you are describing are a symptom of your M.P.B., and left untreated ,in due time are genetically determined to "permanently" fall out or at best never return to their once original, healthy state. We all know as M.P.B. sufferers, left unchecked permanent loss is a guarantee. By your electing to seek appropriate treatment you've found a modest/good potential means of retarding and/or preventing this genetic cycle from causing further cosmetic detriment. Regretfully no one can say with absolution that these aforesaid sheds will regrow as revitalized plump hairs again, but thanks again to your early resolve to implement a solid plan of action, as well as your optimistic outlook, I believe it's very realistic that you can expect those shedding induced hairs a safer and happier return. :sun: All the best.

Buddy .. whatever happens, DO NOT STOP.. Once I was at your stage and back in 2009 I stopped using both finasteride and minoxidil after 4 months, the worst mistake of my life so far. I lost all the remaining hair with 2 years.

I have an explanation for dark circles, you might be applying minoxidil around sleeping time (I assume). SO when you sleep some of the residual minoxidil might have been soaked into ur pillow and when u take turn u r literally dipping ur eyes on pillow and this is what causing ur dark circles. (I may be wrong, but this is what i found). SO apply minoxidil around 3 4 hrs before goin to sleep.

And regarding side effects, i personally never felt any problem (neither pain in testicles nor libido loss). But read it can lead to impotency so I panicked and I just simply stopped using it. But it was a big mistake for me and i cannot go back. Just stick to what u r using currently.

This is all I can say. Although am restrting my fight again and using Ayurvedic meds. But i would strongly recommend continue with your thing and stick to the basics.

yeah i use it at night ... but what about facial growths??

and its just 2 months so are you sure that all the hair will be gone?

I am thinking of applying minoxidil once a day for some time

I am thinking of only continuing with finasteride as i am a bit terrified now

I would say be careful and apply some hours before sleeping, so that minoxidil has time to get absorbed and dry out.
if hairs are coming out around ur eyes, though it may sound funny but good news is ur body is responding to minoxidil :)
So dont give up. Any way u can remove the hair around ur eyes later in life by laser. But u cannot grow (or very difficult to grow) if you lose hair from ur head

Bumping this thread.
Friends need more suggestion as I am in a fix.

the patch has started growing around other eye too.. same thing hair started growing..

Possible outcomes

(1) I should only stick to finasteride (Though I am finding a bit of side effect of finasteride too not sure if its psychological or real but when I help myself its quick these days)
(2). Stick to finasteride+ minoxidil 5 % 1 once a day

(3). finasteride+ minoxidil 2 % twice a day

(4). finasteride+ minoxidil 2% once a day

Should get rid of minoxidil at once or i should go from twice a ay to once and then to 2 % solution

What is the positive and negative of only remaining on finasteride? will it save the hair or not?

Please need a help on this

And moreover my Doctor said that your hair is good for atleast 3 year before you should go for hair transplant.

Firstly I experienced dark circles under my eyes with finasteride only and have seen at least 5 other people post pictures of before and after with finasteride only. I have read a lot more cases where this side effect is reported.
7 years ago I started the big 3 after reading from this very forum, I felt optimistic I was doing all I could. Unfortunately I got this side effect (this is the first sign of premature aging on finasteride) so I stopped min and finasteride. The aging of my face reversed somewhat so I started finasteride only and to my disdain the circles returned. I have never tried min as a stand alone product but I will restart it soon after my transplant. My advice to you is to stop everything and try one thing at a time. This is the only way to ascertain what is working and what is causing what side effect. As a rule people should go on finasteride. If it works add min after 1 year. Always wash your hair with nizoral twice a week.

These are my updates.

For the last 6 months, I have stopped applying mi and was only having finasteride 1 mg daily in the morning.

though har have been more or less same ( some loss but no substantial loss andmay be some growth) .

But the biggest issue is these black dark cirlcles, ( this is the pic at 2 PM). In the morning its much worse.

I look aged with these dark circles. Thou I have bene a student and study at night too but never ever in my life I had these dark circles in my life .

I stopped minixidil as I thought these are the side effects of the min

I started to grow some facial hair toowith minoxidil near my eye region, but with I not applying it any more it has gone with time

But these dark circles are still there.

Please help. I dont want these dark circles. They really look bas as its clear in the pic.

Is it a side effect of finasteride? Will it go with time if I stop eating finasteride?

should i go back to Min only and apply i for some time and stop finasteride ?

I got dark circles from minoxidil. From what I can gather, this seems to only happen to certain people, and in my opinion it is probably people who already had slight puffy eyes. This is certainly the case for me, every time I have tried minoxidil either 5% or 2% I got puffy eyes. The 2% version was far better for me than the 5%, however it still happened. If I applied minoxidil and then ate a very sugary or salty meal the problem would get worse, especially salty foods, and this is obvious as salt can cause water retention.
The problem is called vasodiltory edema, and whilst some people claim it doesn't happen it does, granted not to everyone. I found that when I was on it the things that helped improve it was to avoid adding salt to meals, basically avoiding high salt intake, and drinking more water than normal. Also sleeping on my back seems to help. I personally don't know of any way finasteride would cause this problem, so I wouldn't stop doing it on account of that.
