I've already added this to the male section, but i feel that maybe more of you females have had this problem and could give me some advice
I'm really stressed out about my situation so any input would be great.
I'm a guy and ever since i was 18, I have straightened my hair(i'm 21 now). I have very curly, dry hair. I went to a professional stylist in a salon and she showed me how. However, upon going to college, I had less time and did not take good care of my hair. I have an extremely dry scalp, and have taken t/gell extra strenghth to control the itching(i think its some form of dermatitis or skin problem). The t/gel would get rid of the dandruff and painful itching almost entirely. Sometimes i didnt wash my hair for 5 days ( my hair is dry and i found that if i straightened it one day and then let it sit, it built up natural oils and was less dry and looked great compared to the frizzy look it had the day i would straighten it).
Within the past year or two(i really started noticing this over the past year) I feel that the top of my head became very very dry and when i straightened it, making it harder to get the hair straight. I would really leave the straightener on the hairs on the top of my scalp (top near the back). However, i feel like i have fried that region, and it is incredibly dry and i notice thinning. You can't really tell that it has thinned due to the fact that i can comb some other surrounding hair over it( only noticable when looking a little above my head or with a bright light near it).
Also my scalp is more sensitive in that area to the touch. The thinning appears to be a balding area. I have started taking vitamins and am not straightening my hair for a while to see if the hair grows back. Also, I am using recommended conditioners to stop the dryness and the t/gel to control the itchy/flaking. I am in excellent physical condition and do not do drugs (sometimes i drink alcohol during the weekend). However, I am taking difficult classes, often fall behind and am under a considerable amount of stress(lots of stress at times)
So my questions are? Does anyone know if straightening dry hair can lead to thinning? Or does dermatitis/scalp itchying conditions compound this? Or any advice about what this might be? (i'm hoping its not male pattern baldness) And does anyone know if hair thinning/loss due to straigtening will grow back?
Please help me, anyone. This potential loss of hair is really bothering me and i'm getting upset thinking about it. There is like no instance of premature balding in my family( the only one i can think of is an uncle who started balding in his 30's)
any help would be great, (sorry bout the long post, wanted to be thorough)
