Is this male pattern baldness? My father had a full head of hair up until 50 when he experienced a bit of thinning. My moms dad has recession, but is not completely bald, his began around 30-40. My dads father had a full he’s dof hair with no recession his entire life. Dad has similar “indents” on temples, but he got them in his mid twenties. I’m not sure if I’m deluded or right, but regardless I’m bothered by looking in the mirror. Stressed, worried, and depressed... my friends have full heads of hair.

Before I noticed recession, but looks like early changes. This was more than a year ago:

Now (hair is longer than previous):

Looks fine.
Balding? Thinning? Do you think it will stop or has? I’m 17 and really don’t want to part with my hair. It’s wavy and i feel attached to it mentally. I don’t want to be balding so young.

I just said it looks fine, then you asked of you were balding or thinning. You are fine!

Is this male pattern baldness though? There was definitely thinning and hair loss on the temples. Otherwise, what is it? Mature hairline?

I just have a hard time believing this is not male pattern baldness and if it is I want to do something about it ASAP. I don’t want to lose enough hair to the point where treatment halts, but does not obscure balding.

Please give more opinions I’ve been worrying for months and just recently found this forum. The anxiety is mentally trying.

Sorry. I’ve just had anxiety about this forever. Do you think it’s likely just a mature hairline that will hold onto mid adulthood? I understand hair loss as a potential future struggle, but am averse to extreme hair loss in what I still consider to be my youth.

That is what it looks like right now, maturing. I cannot tell you for sure it will never be an issue or not though. You can always use Minoxidil foam on the area if you think it is a problem.

Really sorry to continue asking questions, but I’m definitetly fairly ignorant on the subject. If I now am displaying maturing, what would be a balding pattern? How much more loss would be the cause for concern and divisive action? Essentially, what allows differentiation between a balding (that would continue) and maturing (that would stop)?

Have you acne in forehead?
Problems with sebum are related to common hair loss.

Pattern baldness or temporary (fixable) loss? I’ve had some acne since middle school, mainly forehead, sometimes chin, but it’s not an absurd amount of acne. I’m 17 now and always considered it to just be childhood acne. How could I work to better prevent acne? I use face wipes before bed and shower daily in the morning. There’s a forehead shot higher up in this post that shows the top of my forehead, so you can see some acne, but it’s not an absurd amount.

Should I adapt my diet in some way to limit sebum production? I currently am the traditional diet less/eat calories:/tastes good teenager, but I’d rather keep my hair and give up certain foods rather than indulge.

Maturing is when the temples move up an inch or two back and stop. Balding is when they continue to move back+less volume on the top/thinning on the top and crown and thinning/less volume on the front where you see the scalp easily there.

Final thing: based on the photo of months ago and the current pictures, would you say the temple thinning has stopped or at least slowed for now?

And is there a decent chance that my hair will follow a pattern similar to my fathers since we both have the very similar looking temple spikes? I really appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions. I’m trying to learn more about my present and my potential hair future.
