Hi all i've been suffering from this for 3 years now and i have lost a small amount of hair about 20 per cent at the rear of my head but there are still fine hairs there and i still have all my hair at the front sides and lower back of the head.. What i need to know is what product or products are best for me and will i see any regrowth? Also is it best to see a doctor before buying these products?

Cheers

Ru :)

the backbone of any treatment will be Finasteride, which is the active ingredient in Propecia, Finpecia, Fincar, etc. The recommended ammount for male pattern baldness is 1mg a day but what a lot of people do (incluiding me) is to buy 5mg Fincar pills (from Cipla-an Indian manufacturer) and split it (using a pill cutter is by far the best way) into quarters so then you take 1.25mg every day which is close enough. Nizoral shampoo is also good and if you want regrowth, minoxidil is good, but if you just want to maintain, stay away from minoxidil.

Welcome to the forums.

Read the resources on the home page of this site. If you still have some fine hairs in the hair loss areas then there's a very high chance you'll be able to regrow and maintain. I'd suggest that you get on Propecia straight away and use a ketaconozole (Nizoral or the Boots generic brand) shampoo. I'd also recommend that you start on Minoxidil (the foam is reported to be superior to the liquid).

This regimen is called the 'Big 3' and you can be assured in the knowledge that you'll be doing all that you can to prevent further loss and regrow at the same time. Prevention is better than cure.

There's no harm in getting advice from a trichologist, but many GPs in the UK don't have either much sympathy or much knowledge about hair loss prevention and cures.

Put 'hair loss uk' into Google and choose the SECOND link (Bel????ia) on the page for advice that in my opinion is only slightly inferior to the information on this site ! (DO NOT choose the first link of Westminster whatever you do).

finasteride just wont grow hair at the bald areas, if you still have thinning hair in one area, finasteride will most likely thicken it up.

very true, but he should add nizoral twice per week. So simple, cheap.
