I am curious to know more information on a 'mature hairline.' Some people recede then stop for what seems to be for ever. I am thinking of celebrities such as Vince Mcmahon and Jose Marinio. I have started to recede. I know fo a few posters here who talk of this initial recede then stopping. Any more information please?

It usually happens late teens to mid 20's. If you're hair is receedind slightly but not thinning its highly possible that thats happening. A mature hairline is the norm for most men how many men in their 30's and 40's do you see with a low teenage like hairline? It does not mean that you are going bald.

Why does this happen? I don't understand the science behind dht attacking the hairline and then stopping. saf I am an 18 year old male who is happy with his thickness but my hairline is going v shaped. Do you think I should get the big guns out yet or wait. I was thinking of taking pictures with my hair wet and combed back and then maybe in 6 months?

I'm not sure if this is actually DHT there are other factors such as the forehead growing (it seems to happen when this stops at adulthood). Its hard to explain how the body is programmed to act/change as we age. Its just one of those things like when old mens eyebrows grow crazy or the fact that nose and ear cartalage never stops growing!

V shaped hairline often means the start of real temple recession :( (sorry)

I wouldn't worry about this - mature hairlines seem to be one of the biggest sources of needless panic on sites such as this. Having a 'V' hairline also isn't any indicator of what future hairloss you will have, as mature hairlines often take the form of a 'V' and many are born with one in the first place. Might be worth posting a few pics to check though.

I have had a v-shape hairline all my life. My mother has a v-shape hairline!

Well it's more U than V but I probably will post some pictures soon. I think I suffered from an Telogen Effluvium and after it subsided I believe my hairline crept back slightly but I have no idea if this will porgress further.

I never understood that either. A mature hairline sounds like a cop out to get men to accept some hairloss. By this logic a Norwood 7 is simply a hairline that matured a lot more then a normal one. So really no one should even be treating male pattern baldness right?

hmmm...But the "mature" hairline in those pics is straight across....?
It must differ somewhat depending on your natural hairline, like, some people have very deep v-shape hairlines from a very young age. Even females. So the maturing of a v-shape hairline would look alot different from the idea given in these pics

Not really, there are not many (white) males into their 30s who don't have a mature hairline and as the above link shows there are general boundaries of what constitutes a mature hairline.

I dont know. Those photos look like a guy that has lost hair to me. I mean if that guy had hair in the blue area and now its gone he lost hair. What caused this hairloss I would say must have been DHT just like any hairloss otherwise what else would do that? A mature hairline just makes no sense to me. Most medical professionals dont agree on it anyways. You can find doctors that say there is no such thing as a mature hairline or some that say its 1 inch and not half an inch. Its just one big guessing game. I just call it like I see it hairloss is hairloss.
