May be a Stupid Question - Propecia Shed

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if someone could clear some things up for me.

I've been reading these forums for a few months now, and picked up on alot of useful information. I just have one question.

Why do people shed on propecia???

To my understanding, shedding occurs when hairs in their "resting" phase are replaced by new hairs that are starting to grow. So this makes sence when you use a product like minoxidil, cause it forces new hairs to grow - hence, pushing the old hairs out. But i thought Propecia (finasteride) doesnt do that, it blocks the formation of DHT and prevents the hairs from shrinking. So why the shed???

It may take many more months before your major losses gradually turn into small gains. It is a big downward spiral, followed by a gradual flattening out, then a slow and frustrating rise which gradually accelerates into a big burst of new life until you eventually can't believe that you were worried about anything in the first place.

Sorry, I don't have any scientific answers. Propecia/finasteride affects people differently, I report my positive results to give some hope. I have now deleted my sense of humour as it doesn't seem to help either.

there is a suggestion in the sticky posted in the shedding section that people shed on propecia as a reaction to the sudden reduction in DHT which causes follicles to enter a resting phase simultaneuously - I dont know if this is a proven fact but it seems to make sense to me

thanks, but that didnt answer my question ....

The real answer is that nobody knows and most likely nobody will ever know why. There are just some silly theories that will never be proven or disproven by experiment because there is no money in knowing the answer.

I don't know but isn't it a convienient side effect to be associated with hairloss product use. " Don't worry if you keep losing hair or more hair than normal in the next few months, by month twelve you'll look like a chia pet".

It's like pushing a diet pill and saying your going to gain 40 more pounds before you lose 120, "just go buy a years supply! "You should be happy if you start gaining weight cause you know the product is working!!!"

lol
