Maybe lazy, but...cutting pills into 5ths...

So, I may just be ridiculously lazy, but cutting pills into 5ths using my pill cutter is pretty difficult. I don't really mind the slight cost increase of going to 4ths, because it makes more sense to me to have a steady consistent stream in my system, than the 5ths being different sizes every time I take them. Any thoughts on this, anyone just cut into 4ths, or am I missing something really obvious about cutting a pill into 5ths?

I use a Stanley Knife to cut my Prosar into quaters, I never have any problems and the pill is cut into evenly cut quaters.

You can pick these knifes up from your local DIY store at a cheap price.

Proscar's manufacturers could make it a bit easier for us cheapskate quarterers, with perforation division scratch lines, but they won't, because they want to sell 100%, not 20% or 25% product. So, for the time being we are on our own, experimenting with the fiddly pill cutters and stuff. finasteride is a dangeous thing for frayed nerves.

so splitting into 4ths is what a lot of people do, not just lazy people like me? I just don't have the patience to try and cut each pill into 5ths...cause they are never the same size, and I worry about consisitency of dose...

i do 4ths, so even if you go a little small on a cut, you should still get at least to, or very close to 1mg

i use a pill splitter and cut into 4ths then i cut 1 of the 4ths in half so that i have 5 pills. i think as long as your getting the 5mg over the 5 days, you'll be fine. any feedback on this?

I try to do fifths sometimes but I get lazy. I've done 1/6 a lot before as well.

a quart of proscar is still cheaper and contains more finasteride than a whole of propecia.

just cut it into 4ths. i would too, the only reason i'm keeping on propecia is because i live a very busy life, so i tend to forget if i've taken a pill on a day or not.

having propecia means i can check which day i'm up to by the package. proscar means i'd have to leave it all in a bottle or something.

does anybody have any advice for this? i would tick off days on the calendar, but that's a big hassle to remember to do everyday.

Why don't you just get one of those pill dispensers that old folks use to organize their handfulls of pills. You can get them at the dollar store. They are little containers that have a compartment for each day of the week.

I'd lose all the savings I make from proscar.

But I'm sure I'll figure out something.

in all seriousness though: do i need to put water absorbing silica into those containers? or is it ok to just leave finasteride in open air? and how many pills do you guys cut at a time? only enough for one week? or the whole batch?

i have two containter, one with uncut pills, and one with the three extra 4ths that is store with the dessicator agent, i cut one pill at a time as needed

i just leave my cut up Proscar in the patches that have been open. the instruction leaflet is really good for acting as a force against the open bit so the pills won't fall out.
