Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to share my experiences with everyone. I am 22 and started to notice thinning in the temple area about two years ago. My father is bald and so is his father - so I kind of knew it was coming but was hoping it wouldn't!!
For the last year I was going to a hair clinic and getting LLLT done for about $100. I know there are many claims against how well Laser Therapy works - but I can tell you during the year I did it I didn't notice any progression with my thinning...didn't help to regrow any though either. However in September I stopped doing it because of the cost and the clinic was a 1 hour drive away.
I have done a lot of research so I know all of the available options out there. End of November I decided to try Propecia, Nizora shampoo, and Viviscal. I had high hopes for Propecia - mainly just to help keep what I have. I have been on it for almost three weeks and I think yesterday was my last day on it. It has caused me to have a really oily face - which I have always had problems with Acne. In 2005 I went on Accutane for 8 months and it cleared me up 100%. I have been off of it since Aug 2005 and none of the oil or skin problems have returned...until I started Propecia. I also have not been feeling so good while on Propecia and have been experiencing some really weird mood swings which I never had problems with before taking it.
All in all I am so very disappointed about stopping Propecia...but it just isn't worth having bad skin again and having mood swings. I'm hoping my skin will return to normal once I am off of it for a bit.
I am however, not done with my fight against hair loss. Last week I ordered a Laser Comb (yeah, yeah - I have read the reviews). But it is the same Laser Therapy I was getting before which I think did help some - so I am going to do it. I am also considering Rogaine Foam and maybe next month will consider Avodart.
Just wanted to get others opinion on my situation. Has anyone had problems on Propecia and then went to Avodart without any problems??
I'm hoping it won't take long for the side effects to go away on Propecia since I was only on it three weeks.
Matt
