Hi,
My hair has just begun to fall out, but before I get into that let me give you some background info.

I have had many problems with depretion and anxiety disorders, Its been a problem for me since the 3ed grade and I have been on a pletha of drugs since the 6th grade on. Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Trazadone, seraquil, ex. ex. But one that I realy hated was Depakote, as the side affects were awful. I gained close to 50 pounds, during the 11 months or so that I was on it. What bothered me is that I was blind to the fact that it was happening, I saw the number, and I knew I was gaining weight, but it didnt register. BTW another very common side effect of Depakote is hair loss.

Now, I am 17 now and I am on Zoloft, Xanax, and Ambean with the occational adderall. I have noticed some hair loss in the past 6 months, It was getting worse so after brefly talking with my phyciatrist about it I went to a dermatoligest. He ripped out some hairs and told me that It was probly from going on and off and on and off and on and off and on from all the meds I had been taking. He said it WAS NOT male pattern baldness. Im not sure i beleve this, but I hope its the problem and not my genes. My father experenced hair loss very early, around the age I am now. The dermotoligest told me that I should use rogaine for a year.

I am using Minoxidil 5% quite liberaly, two or more times a day. I have been doing this for close to a month. I am also taking propecia 1mg one time a day. I have been using propecia around 4 weeks. I am quite worryed about my hair, I have a small bald spot at the vertex and my hair has always been thin, so it makes it that much more noticable. What other shampoos or other products would you recomend? Is taking more than 1mg of porpicea any more effective? What if I just took Proscar every day? Also what are your views about using 10-15% Minoxidil products? I am also considering dutasteride, but not sure. I may go with Proscar because I feel like I need something stronger. I can deal with side effects, I have been seince I can remember. I am willing to do whatever it takes to keep my hair, and I plan on fighting it till I die if thats what I have to do. If I could just keep the hair I have now I would be content. ANY help AT ALL is GREATLY appreceated.

Thanks,
Mike

probs not a good idea to use more than twice a day, may cause side effects and will def increase ur focus on your hair loss b/c u spend yet more time in the mirror.

Thicker and Fuller Hair Shampoo and Conditioner are excellent. I used the conditioner for the first time today(havent used the shampoo yet) and it provided tremendous thickening results and it was after a haircut!

Taking more propecia is not recommended by of increased risk of side effects. One can have a blood test done for hormone levels related to the effect of propecia to discover if propecia is having the intended effect of lowering DHT levels, it could be that if it is not u may wish to increase the dosage but u also risk potential side effects. It takes time to work and one must have patience to see results. Proscar isa 5mg dosage which could be dangerously too high a dosage. Dr Lees 10%-15% minoxidil seems to have good results on regrowth, however I am wary of using it b/c of this

Dustaride's side effects are unknown yet, there are ppl who report success with it and theoretically it is more effective in stoppping hair loss as it inhibits both Type 1 and 2 of 5-AR( dont know the science but lets say it covers more ground in hormone blockage). Potenitially risky; also due to its longer half-life than propecia it stays in ur system much longer than propecia does.

one thing to remember is that hte gung-ho approach to hair loss drugs does not necessarily work as complete elimination of DHT actually will stop hair from growing.

All the posters who have had success on this board had a combination of the right drugs ( Big 3 + maybe other supplementary stuff) and Patience. The treatments, when taken regularly and in the proscribed amount do work with varying degrees of success. Don't give up b4 u give them a chance to work.

take care

OK,
Well, after more than 8 months on finasteride with increasing amounts of hair loss I have decided to switch over to dutasteride. I have now been on .5mg dutasteride for over 4 months. At first the hair loss increased but then slowed down after the first month. Currently I am loosing lots of frontal hair and am not sure what to do. Is there anything else I can do? Any new great products out there? As I understand 2.5mg of dutasteride is more effective, but I have already been battling this aggressively and I don’t think that should really be considered yet. I have experienced no noticeable side affects from the dutasteride though. Any suggestions?
