Can an iron deficiency or anything else cause miniaturization of hair, or is miniaturization ONLY present in Androgenetic Alopecia. I've read an article which claimed low iron levels can cause hair loss and miniaturization of hair.

Yes, iron and/or nutrient deficiency can cause hair loss, but not miniaturization of hair. Miniaturization happens only in Androgenetic Alopecia, when DHT shrinks the hair follicles.

Thx again, well now I know for sure I'm dealing with Androgenetic Alopecia or better said DUPA. I was just hoping I still had a chance it could be something else.

My cousin is anemic and has iron deficiency. When I saw the top of her head today, the thinning looked exactly like she has Androgenetic Alopecia going on. Maybe it's totally unrelated but it can't hurt to draw a blood sample and check it out.

Thx vin, my iron is really low, always has been. Doctors seem to think its normal, although I've been taking iron supplements for a long time with no results. I just think that the deficiency and SD has sped up the whole process.

Miniaturization is most commonly seen in Androgenetic Alopecia, but it is not the only thing to cause it. The following are causes of miniaturization: Genetics (Androgenetic Alopecia), DHT (the amt of which is also determined in part by genetics), aging, telogen effluvium (which can be caused by stress, physical trauma, prescription medications, nutritional deficiency), or nutritional deficiency alone.

Good question and great answer post before me. I just want to know if these shiny smooth scalp patches will ever grow back. Trying a balancing cleasing shampoo and a serum that encourages growth at the moment.

Does telogen.effluvium cause all hairs to go miniaturized?
