How can you tell if a hair is miniturized? Is there actually something to look for?

Thanks!!!! :D

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Hi Vanessa -

The most accurate answer to this question is no, you can't tell if hair is miniaturized with the naked eye. It takes a highly accurate digital imaging device to analyze the hairs in a certain area of the scalp operated by an educated hair specialist to determine if any of the lighter, thinner, shorter hairs are miniaturized hairs or just new hairs growing in.

Most people gauge miniaturization by an overall asessment of the density of their hair. If things more skin is showing, the assumption is made.

Hi Vanessa!

One more thing, I just wanted to point out that even though it is nearly impossible to tell with a bathroom light and mirror, the way that Dr. Price was able to identifyminiaturization was to use an extremely bright halogen light and a laminated white card (similar to an index card).

She shifted my hair around a bit and settled around the area of most hair loss and showed my dad and myself (my dad stood over me and she gave me a mirror to use) that these short hairs that were growing in were definitely, very obviously thinner and lighter in color than the rest of my hair.

I am kind of confused though, (heh) I went to Sharper Image at the mall the other day and saw my hair with those intensive magnified vanity mirrors, and saw the hairs that Dr. Price pointed out, but then again I saw hairs that were the same length (maybe 2.5 inches) as the miniaturized ones that were as thick, meaty and dark as the rest of my non-miniaturized hairs.

I'm hoping that it's some regrowth along with miniaturization, as opposed to just ALL miniaturization!

Take care, hope you had a great weekend too :)

miniaturized hairs

I can tell you exactly what both my miniaturized hairs and my DHT-stricken, but not necessarily wispy, hairs look like. I will take pictures of them on a white card and post them as soon as possible.

Thanks Maya! That would be super helpful, as I've had some regrowth recently but have no idea if it's "real" growth...
