Hi,

I applied Minoxidil foam (5%) for the first time last night (half a cap as the instructions said) at around 11:30 PM. Initially I felt fine, perhaps a bit drowsy (but it was late anyway).

However, I was sleepless and wide awake until about 5:30 AM. My heartbeat felt stronger, I had heartburn and my stomach was rumbling around a lot.

Today at 11 AM I am still feeling quite drowsy and muscles all around a little bit light - but this could be due to the fact I only slept 3-4 hours. I have not re-applied the foam.

---

Is this a normal effect of Minoxidil? Am I imagining things and is this the normal way people feel after using it the first time - or could this be a serious concern?

Also, how long will it take the Minoxidil to completely pass?

Thanks!

Systemic absorption of minoxidil can lead both to dizziness/drowsiness and to accelerated or intensified heartbeat. minoxidil is a vasodilator and decreases blood pressure; as a consequence, if blood pressure is too low, your brain suffers and your heart has to compensate by increasing its frequency and/or heartbeat.

There are a couple of ways which could've led to systemic absorption:
  • You applied minoxidil after showering or on an otherwise damp/wet scalp
  • You applied too much (should be 1 ml per application, not more - I dont know how much "half a bottlecap" is, but with my applicator its more like a fourth)
