minoxidil 5% and coffee/caffeine consumption

I hope I am posting in the right forum. If not, mods, please feel free to move to the proper one.

Lately I have noticed some chest pressure/anxiety which cannot be accounted for. I have looked at my life/work situation to see if it could be stress related, but to be honest, I am less stressed than I have ever been as I am about to quit my current job and start my dream job in a few weeks.

That being said, I was previously using Kirkland mino 5% for just my hairline. So I was using about .25ml only, 2 times a day.. The last month I have been putting it on my crown as some hair is getting thin, and I wanted to stop that before it got worse. I increased my application to 1ml 2x/day and this is when I started to notice the chest pressure issue. I attributed it to the minoxidil as I read that possible side effects could include the ones I was experiencing.

I drink about 1 americano a day, and used to have 5 hr energy drinks 3-4 times a week (this was in the summer when sleep was minimal). Last week I decided to go cold turkey from coffee or anything caffeinated for a week. During that time, needless to say I felt like crap from the withdrawal, but had to admit I didn't get any chest issues.

Fast forward beginning of the week and I decided to get an americano... later that evening I felt the chest pressure/anxiety happen again.

I am not blaming coffee itself, or even the minoxidil... but in combination, FOR ME, it seems to be a bad combo. I decided I can live off of decaf/not drinking any coffee, if it meant I could keep my hair. It will save me 3 bucks anyways.

So I am posting this for 2 reasons.

1)Has anyone else experience the same issue as me?

2)Maybe the side effects that are common in regards to chest pain/HR etc, are attributed to people not realizing their daily routine such as drinking coffee, tea, caffeinated drugs, or even other meds like aspriin, advil etc.. in cmobo with minoxidil could be causing the side effects, not the minoxidil alone...

Thanks for reading.

That's rather bizarre... minoxidil is a blood vessel dilator, which means it OPENS blood vessels, and was actually originally used as a high blood pressure medication to LOWER blood pressure.

Caffeine increases blood pressure. So, in effect, I'd think the two substances would affect blood pressure in opposing ways.

which could be the problem... the conflicting drugs could interact and cause some issues, whether minor or possibly serious? it isn't as simple as them just writing each other off.

I don't disagree and was certainly not trying to discount either being a causative factor. That might very well be the case.

I am also going to test and see if it could be the saw palmetto that could be giving me issues... I am going to stop taking it for the next week. The issue I have seems to be at odd times.. neither immediately after putting on the minoxidil nor drinking coffee.. usually late afternoon or evening where it would have been hours since I have had either...

This thread has been a while but I recently experienced similar symptoms. I'm a rogaine user and whenever I drink caffeine products late in the evenings, I get discomfort in the heart/chest area during sleep. As JaySizzle said, using just rogaine or just drinking coffee does not seem to cause any symptoms. I wonder has anyone else experienced this and are there any way to alleviate the symptoms. Thanks.

I get it too especially right after applying. I get the dark puffy eyes too. I counter it by making sure I drink plenty of water and always try to get some cardio exercise in each day.
