minoxidil and Heart (and ED?)

Hey guys,

I started taking minoxidil 5% 2 months ago primarily to treat a receding hairline and my crown area. When people look at me it's not obvious, but my hair is slowly thinning out, and I want to make that process as slow as possible.

Trouble is, this week I started having issues where I'd wake up with a pounding heart beat and sometimes at random times in the day feel like not enough air was getting to my lungs. I'm not asmatic and am an athlete. I knew this couldn't be right.

perhaps worse than that, I noticed that i was having trouble with performance with my girlfriend. Note: school is stressful, i have had ED before because of depression/anxiety, and also i had ED last summer caused directly by my anti-depressants (which I no longer take.)

So to be honest I'm not sure if the ED is connected to the Rogaine/minoxidil. I've heard that official sources don't list it as a side effect, but testimonials online do.

What do you folks think? The onset of the ED this time was sudden, little under 2 weeks ago.

Timi claims minoxidil causes ED, but he's hypersensitive to the drug. Irregular heartbeat and trouble breathing are signs of overdose.

Thanks guys. I've experienced ED (even though I am young before) due to anti-depressants. This has been a particularly stressful time for me and it seems like the breathing stuff/ED struck all of a sudden a week and a half ago. So at this point it's hard to determine whether it's coincidence or not.

I'm not sure if I should go off minoxidil or wait a few more weeks to see if these issues subside.

Try using half the dose. Apply at night only. See if it improves, and then try to increase the dose.

Wow, that's um, quite dramatic. I'm going to assume that your experience of symptoms isn't the norm. :dunno:

Anyways, I did originally start using rogaine only once a day, would that still be moderately effective, or would I just be wasting my money?

Oh also, I usually apply the minoxidil right after I get out of the shower (I dry my hair pretty throughly first though, otherwise the stuff doesn't stick.) Could this mean anything?

Yeah, I heard that it absorbs better after a shower, hence why that seemed like a good idea.

I hope this impotence issue clears up soon. RIght now my girlfriend and I are having issues on top of the stress of school, but I don't like it when I don't get my "morning wood" lol.

Well, it's not. A wet or moist scalp increases absorption drastically. I was out in the rain once, a hour or so after applying Rogaine 5%. Never again...

Apply to a dry scalp only.

If you end up determining that minoxidil is the cause of your heart issues and ED try genhair brand before giving up. I havent tried it personally but it was recommended to me. They have a brand called sensitive minoxi. Supposed to work well for those experiencing side effects from the kirkland brand (Rogaine) of minoxidil.

So, it's been about, under twoish weeks since I last posted in this topic, I have this to report:

Dropping the dosage to once a day, and making sure my scalp was completely dry, I have:

ceased to have rapid heart beat.

erections have been better and my sex drive has returned somewhat.

Along with dropping one dosage a day, I have always been working on handling my stress caused from daily life to see if that was also part of it.

I still think that, in flacid mode, mister happy isn't his normal size (feels shriveled/numb when not engaged in intercourse, which is odd.)
