minoxidil and propecia. are they both necessary?

i notice that a few of your guy's regimen is combining minoxidil and propecia. is that because one growns hair and the other helps keep what you already have? i only want to keep what i have so are they both necessary? which one helps keep what ya got?

Keep propecia. It will at the least maintain your hair and may even grow some more.

minoxidil helps grow hair in a way totally not related to how propecia treats male pattern baldness

minoxidil can grow hair anywhere, but not the real exact hair that you are losing

so combining them usually is for maximizing results

i am finasteride only

right on. thanks for the info. my hair is thin on top and in the vertex but i'm okay with the thinning but just want to keep what i have. so if the minoxidil is only to grow hair, then i really am wasting my time and money becasue i'm okay with what's up there. i'm almost 40 so some thinning is acceptable.

what about nizoral? what is that doing for ya and where do you get it?

nizoral is great because it is an antiandrogen, in which one study showed it's regrowth alone close to that of minoxidil... and actual treats the androgens that cause male pattern baldness

also, great for itchy scalp and dandruff that many male pattern baldness men/women have

i use it a few times a week and finasteride

in the US, you can pick it up at any local grocery store or drug store, find it next to dandruff shampoos

Get on nizoral if you're on finasteride. It is a must.

As for minoxidil, I started with propecia alone, I felt I kept my hair but you know how it is, there were these few areas I wanted to recover so I got minoxidil. Great results so far. Not sure if both of them work synergistically (i.e. one drug makes the other one better) but I saw results at the one month mark after adding minoxidil to my regimen.

But overall to answer your question get on finasteride alone first and see how you react. If you lose too much ground add minoxidil.
