Im new to the hairloss drugs,i started Propecia and minoxidil june 1st.2 months in i started noticing the pores on my face getting huge and then noticed more wrinkles and dark cicles under my eyes,i started looking around and see more people with the same problem.I must say minoxidil works great at growing hair,it filled my crown in nicely in 3 months,so i say try it if you get the sides drop it.It sucks cause now i gotta watch all that new hair fall out :( im hoping the propecia will do the trick. Are there any other topicals that dont have this side effect? Thanks

Been on minoxidil for 2 years almost and am noticing that my face looks very sh*t and old. It's very tough at my age (18). I didn't need that in addition to baldness...

Studies showing Minoxidil reduces collagen production? I would love to read that if you have a link

Guys, no offense but why do you keep applying that thing if it has such adverse effects on your body???

I used minoxidil for 7-8 months, and then I realised that it was making my face bloated, looking tired, dark circles, etc...

I regrew a bit of hair, but it wasn't worth it. When I realised my face looked crap all the time, I quit minoxidil.

Oh yeah, I also lost some hair after quitting minoxidil...

Because it's a help to our problem and no such side effects are mentioned in the information paper that comes with the medicine. If I knew it before, I wouldn't have touched the stuff. Now it's almost 2 years on it already and too late: I have ruined my looks :(.

Yeah, I can see in your pics what it has done to your eyes
or is it that you are just tired on those pictures>?

I'm going to leave minoxidil and stick with finasteride, at least finasteride is a very benign drug

I found this on a balding blog, someone asking Dr. Rassman a question about Minoxidil wrecking his face.

I have used minoxidil for my hair thinning on the vertex and hairline and it is working great! Except I’m noticing a disturbing, growing sensation on my forehead since I have been using it.

Whenever I would apply the minoxidil, my forehead would have a cool, wet sensation for about 20 minutes as if cooled water was running over it but it wasn’t the minoxidil or water. Nevertheless, I have been using it for 2 months and my forehead feels STIFF and I’m noticing wrinkles! I’ve read the 2 archived topics about wrinkles & minoxidil (i.e.â€Using Propecia at Temples, Wrinkles From Minoxidil…†) but I found documented studies about how it effects collagen synthesis (see: Medscape & Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science)

I’m assuming that minoxidil would be the cause of my facial stiffness (so bad, it feels like my forehead is duct taped) and gradual appearance of wrinkles. I’m a 25 year old male. I would greatly appreciate it if you could reply. Thank you so much!

Dr.Rassmans response
Aside from that previous post from a reader, I’ve never heard complaints about wrinkles being caused by minoxidil. None of my patients have reported that to me. The studies you sent are interesting, but I’m not convinced that minoxidil will cause wrinkles. You might have some kind of allergic skin reaction to an ingredient in your formulation of minoxidil. I’m just speculating, of course.

My question to you guys.If this stuff (minoxidil)has been around since the 80's shouldnt Rassman know that in some people,be it rare or not that rare can cause your face to get screwed up?
My 2nd question.Minoxidil was working great at growing hair in my crown, i would like to use it,so is there any credence to what he says ( You might have some kind of allergic skin reaction to an ingredient in your formulation of minoxidil)if this is true maybe we can still use it.sorry for the long post, what do you guys think?

If I'm tired, I look even worse.

For good skin use

Vitamin E Gel:

Retin -A Cream

Dermaroller
A $20 one from ebay is fine, I don't know why people pay big money for these.

Drink plenty of water/fresh juice.

Wash daily with a facewash from Clinique, maybe use Clinique face scub once a week. They two products should last you a year.

that's a fairly cheap regime there, no need for fancy $200 creams.
Hmm... you think I should use Retin-A cream with Dermaroller? Dermaroller is like a catalyst for the cream and they're supposed to be used together, right? I've heard Retin-A cream was pretty tough and needed a prescription also.
Thanks!

Fanjeera,

Sounds like you've had sides from all hairloss meds. Not sure if your still trying to stop your loss, but I think its best for some people (myself included) to just let nature take its course. If you can learn to have some humor and accept your hairloss, while developing other areas of your body and mind, I think you will be much happier than a life of pills, foams, scalp massaging and other magic remedies.

Good luck.

Fanjeera,

Have you tried:

Eucapil/Fluridil
which doesn't have side affects?

Spectral RS
contains Retinol and Aminexil

RU58841
An alternative to finasteride.
viewtopic.php?t=54597&view=newest

Nano Shampoo from Dr Proctor
Some people have go 6months to a year out of 1 bottle.

I haven't used Retin-A with the dermaroller but I think it would be best to start off without the roller at it's very strong. You should be able to get retin-a in a pharmacy. It usually comes up on ebay every so often and if you're quick enough ask the seller a question, and you'll get their email address before ebay cancels the listing.

Also, try the following Vits for your skin: Hyaluronic Acid/MSM/Spirulina
Do a search on iherb.com
