Minoxidil bad for hairline?

I am starting to suspect that minoxidil is bad for my hairline. It causes a lot of flaking and itchiness. I'm using nizoral and jasons thick to thin but the flaking continues.

I'm not sure but is seems as though the minoxidil causes my healthy hair on the hairline to fallout and grow back velous and I'd rather have 2 dark healthy hairs then 5 thin invisible velous hairs. Anyone else had this kind of experience? What did you do? Keep using the minoxidil or just drop it? is emu oil any good? I noticed a lot of people are using it.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Ok i think i just answered my own question by reading the "can coming off minoxidil cause a shed?" post because his story sounds a lot like mine. I'm sticking to the minoxidil.

let me refraise.

what can i do to counteract the flaking and irritation that kirkland minox5% is causing my hairline and temples? has anyone tried the dr. lee minoxidil 15% or 5%? does it dry much quicker because i like to use minoxidil nearing sleepy time? emu oil? anyone.....anyone......buelher...anyone...

Dr. lee has a ppg-free formula that will not irritate your scalp. A small percentage of people respond to regular minoxidil in the mannor you have described and this will be your best bet. I know his regular minoxidil (with-ppg) dries completely in maybe 10 minutes tops, but I'm sure about the drying time of his ppg-free formula.

Emu oil is good stuff but a pain in the *** to use because it gets messy. You will need to wash out of hair before going out in the AM or whenever.

How long have you been on minoxidil? It is common for flaking and irritation to occur for the first 2-3 months you are on it. I shed some massive skin flakes for the first 3 months or so, but over time your scalp becomes accustomed to it and the irritation and flaking subsided. This happens for most folks, over time, and with the help of Nizoral.

If you've been using it longer than that, then perhaps the PPG might be the culprit. I'd first try Lee's normal minoxidil, the quick drying blend. Even though it still has PPG in it, it has less PPG than the normal Rogaine blend and for some this change has been enough to get the irritation back under control.

If the Lee normal 5% doesn't work, then consider PPG-free.

In my 2 weeks of minoxidil (Xandrox 5%) use I have itched in intervals of 7 days, it's really weird but true. I usually spray some American Crew Revitalize (Copper Peptides) on it and wait, it goes away.
